Headlight lenses made of glass? 2000 Limited

So, my kid's 2000 Tacoma PreRunner had plastic headlight lenses on it from the factory. My other kid's new to her 2000 4Runner Limited has factory headlights with glass lenses. Is this unusual? It struck me as surprising. And nice for the 4Runner.

Everything I can find (OEM & Aftermarket) says that they were glass right through to 2002. I haven't found a part number for plastic.

Also - they make quite a mess if you happen to drop one from ~10' by accident.

Well excuse me for being wrong. I was going off of another thread where they were saying if you buy new replacements to get them for a 2001 up and they are half the price because they changed from glass to plastic that year.

close. they changed from frosted glass to clear glass from 2000+

96-98 came with frosted glass.

They're all glass

Have either of you installed them and if yes, are the headlights brighter? Lots of people are mentioning they are better but no one who swapped them into a 96-00 has said if they are actually brighter or not.

They are by far brighter then my stock 96 headlights with the same PIAA bulbs I’ve ran on both sets. The headlight pattern seems to project light out further and spreads evenly. I would take a picture but my Runner is under the knife getting a lift - Wheels - etc done for another week. You won’t regret it, Best lease expensive mod to do!

Correct. The clear glass lense projects lights a lot better + makes the vehicle look so much cleaner/newer.

I usually browse Rock Auto first, but ended up finding the best deal on eBay, less than $70 shipped http://r.ebay.com/roe1Vs. Legit seller, can't comment on beam pattern because these will be taken apart for a projector retrofit.

I did this as well with a couple of decent junkyard lights I found. Made my 97 feel "newer". You won't regret the upgrade.

The problem with used is that the reflector gets a coating of dirt over the years. That's why I went with new TYC over used. New OEM is too expensive.
