Headlight restore

I've also used the CV kit with great results and agree that the sealer is what makes the difference. It lasted about five years on our Subaru's headlights before they started to get hazy again. I've purchased it at Auto Zone and Walmart.
 
Does anyone just know of a clear sealer that can be purchased alone? That's the main problem like what was just stated by the guy above me. Cleaning the lens isn't the problem its the sealant.
 
I am not aware of a standalone headlight/plastic sealer.
As for the CV kit I bought mine at Advance Auto and later saw it at Walmart for $5 less.
 
Never needed to polish the headlights on my 4R and there is no hazing either. I've been using the Wolfgang sealer on my 4R for the last 2 years. My 4R has been living outside in the sun since.
 
cheap fix...toothpaste

saw a vid on you tube using toothpaste so i tried it...worked ok for a cheap fix but i was going to buy the cv kit to see if i can make it perfect...toothpaste and a wet rag works though...and it's cheap...just rinse well after wards...hope this helps those on a budget like myself
 
Key is the sealant or the more permenant, clear film (tint or clearbra) afterwards to keep it clear.
 
I saw a video of mosquito spray with DEET on Youtube and tried it on my faded lens. It worked great. I then used RainX afterwards and apply occasionally to keep a protective layer over the deet cleaned lens. Has been working good and costs nothing!

My only problem with this is how often do you have to apply the deet? I'm guessing pretty often and that can't be good. Deet does make the haze go away b/c it's melting the plastic. There is only so much plastic on it, I would be hesitant to use deet permanently to restore the headlight.
 
The best thing to remove the yellowing and crusty build up on the lens is wet/dry sandpaper with water then polish and finally a sealant. I have used this method on three different vehicles and have gotten excellent results.
Buy the 3M wet/dry sandpaper pack at Walmart in the automotive department that comes with 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 grit paper. Sand your lens starting with the lowest grit working your way up then polish and seal.

what polish & seal do you use?
 
I tried the 3m and it worked really good. the hazing came back a few months later.

I ended up taking them out, giving them to a friend of mine who owns a body shop. he got them crystal clear by wet sanding and buffing them. after he clear coated them they look brand new and have been like this with no hazing for almost 2 years.

its the UV protectant breaking down that causes the yellowing. you can buy the UV coating from a body shop supply store but its not cheap.

Deep woods "OFF" bug spray...go at it using paper towels until the towels aren't yellow. Takes 2 minutes. You'll have to redo it periodically, just like you do with all the high dollar treatments.

I dunno about periodically, but mine has held up for two years, parked outside, in Illinois. Done right, done once.
 
I used the mosquito spray last summer and still holding up. I think all the people saying it melts the plastic and comes back all the time have never even used it. They just repeat rumors they hear from others who have never done it!
I dont really care- I applied once and got all the yellow off on my paper towel, cleaned the lens afterwards with soap and water. Now I just use Rain X on them once in a while and good to go. cost nothing!
