Headlight sensitivity adjustment

I know the dealer can adust the sensitivity of the auto headlights. Mine never come on when it rains, and I was hoping an adjustment could fix that. Anyone have this done? I assume the sensor for this senses light which then turns off the headlights (otherwise they stay on), so I need them to DECREASE the sensitivity of it. Is that correct?

They may be able to adjust for light (I have not heard of anyone having it done) but there is no rain sencing.

I would think you would want to increase the sensitivity of it. You are assuming when it rains, it gets darker. I thought that all limited comes with the day time running light as an option.
What happens if it is a sun shower or sometime? It will not turn on even with the increase sensitivity.

Most states have a law that if it is raining, your headlights must be on. It would make sense for Toyota to incorporate that in. It makes sense from a simple safety standpoint as well.

Have the headlights turn on if the wipers have been on for at least 30 seconds. That way, they avoid your lights flashing off & on if you just hit the wipers for a second.

Yeah, I know they won't sense rain, I just wonder if they can adjust the sensitivity enough to make them come on when it gets cloudy enough to rain. Lazy, I know.

I am trying to do the opposite. Does that make sense or is it just too late on a friday afternoon for my brain to work properly?

Mine has DRL, but I don't think the twin orange lights make you visible enough when it gets stormy, so I'd rather have the headlights switch on automatically. True, I am assuming it will get darker when it rains, so it is not 100% full proof, but I thought it might be an improvement over flipping my switch back and forth.

In the PDF it says that 1 = Very Light and 5 = Very Dark with the default set to 3. I seem to recall reading somewhere that the 4Runner also has a default setting of 3.

By the way, I was wishing my lights would come on during a thunderstorm the other day too. So if we could just figure out how to adjust it to 2 or 1, we'd be set.

You would want to adjust the auto light to come on when there is more light outside. I don't think the sensor is sensitive enough and there is many times when I thought the lights should have been on. Toyota should definitely make the lights automatically come on with the wipers. BMW actually put their automatic lights sensor next on the rear view mirror mount. When you turn the wipers on, they end up covering the sensor and make the lights come on.

It may sound crazy, but I park in a closed parking deck every day and I decided to time how long the lights take to turn on in the closed deck. It took them around 25 seconds to turn on and it is very dark under there. The RX400 and my 4Runner take the same amount of time to turn on! :
