In the old days, that meant your alternator was not putting out enough power, or your battery was dead. Maybe check those first?

Yep could be battery or alternator. You can run it by O'Reilly auto parts and they can check both out for you.

Just swap to the LED tails and it will stop dimming, or I guess you can check your bat/alt.

My former 2010 and my new to me 2016 have the same issue. I've been told to look at the battery or alternator, but never tested any solutions.

gona fire a new battery in it first , the org one still in so its probbly due. its bizzare tho , it only hapoens when i do a quick double tap of the brake lol , im convinced my lights are not as brite as they use to be also .

Don't just throw money at it have it checked first.

I’ve noticed the same thing only when I switched to higher output headlamps. They dip worse when I doublecheck the windows are up. My battery and charging system are good.

Mine has done it for years. The brake booster/pump whatever controls the ABS/VSC etc draws a lot of power and causes it.

It’s unfortunately normal.

My 2016 LE does this after driving for a bit (highway) and hit the breaks, if I hit them a second time within a short time (less then 15 seconds) they do not dim again...

don't think it has anything to do with cold as it just started happening and has never done it before , amazing how long the factory batteries last compared to aftermarket ones , this one being 9 years old I might be pushing it tho. If you go to Toyota and buy a new battery they wont last as long as the one that came with it when new , its like they put the special battery in on the assembly line.

I know this is an old thread but my 2014 limited does the same thing about 10% of the time - and rarely, restarts entire computer/electrical system. But headlights dimming when I brake and/or computer restart on brake (and/or when headlight leaver manipulated) is throwing me for a loop. It's so erratic it's hard to prove it is happening and very disconcerting when it happens at high speeds. Battery and alternator both test fine; we're following wires around in circles now.

Carefully inspect all the ground connections for corrosion and be sure they are tight:
-battery negative terminal
-the negative connection from the battery to the chassis or engine
-ground connections to the lights.

My 2015 Trail does it every other time I touch the brake pedal. They dim and then return. The battery and alternator were checked and both were fine.

So when hitting brakes your headlights dim. Are you in "D" drive? When you take your foot off the gas , to brake, does your tach show engine RPM drop?
If yes, then reduced alternator output explains the voltage drop and headlights dimming.
I would check battery condition and clean all connections/terminals.
My 2 cents.

Mine had done this for a decade. I first noticed it when I switched to higher output headlight bulbs but it still did it when I switched back to bone stock. Also does it when I double check all windows are up. It registers on my scanguage when it’s set to voltage.
