Headliner removal with sunroof

I plan on installing dynamat to the ceiling and was wondering how difficult it is to remove the headliner. Does anyone have any tips or experience doing something like this?

I put two layers of Noico sound deadener/insulation (butyl and closed cell foam) on the ceiling of my 4th gen. I did it last year, so this is all based on my memory, nothing was documented. I am a novice mechanic, so everything is relatively simple to do. ItÂ’s just a matter of being patient, not cutting corners and working slowly.

To get the headliner out, all the plastic trim on the sides needs to be removed, including the cargo area and all the pillars. I forget exactly what was involved, but removing the headliner after all the trim was removed was easy.

The sunroof is pretty close to the front, so I only put the Noico to the rear of the sunroof. I put the Noico everywhere I could, so having all the plastic off made getting to the wheel wells, etc. easy.

You donÂ’t need 100% coverage with the thin (butyl rubber) layer. I got about 1/2-2/3 coverage. I got >90% with the foam layer. The metal wheel roller is essential to attach/flatten the butyl layer and the foam.

The prep work and reassembly was probably 3/4 of the work.

I looked for photos on my phone, but I canÂ’t find them. Hopefully, there are some photos on this forum.
