Heads up on tire sale at Discount Tire Direct ebay store

Just wanted to pass this along if any of you are buying tires right now. Discount Tire Direct is having a sale on their ebay store. $100 off a purchase of $400 and up. You can use the coupon CMOTORS0314 three times per ebay account.

I bought 2 sets of 2 BFG T/A KO 265/70-17. I did them in 2 separate purchases so each set of 2 was $466-100 = $366. So that way I got $200 off.

So for $732 shipped with no tax I got 4 brand new BFG KO's.

Mods figured this would be ok to post since Discount Tire is a sponser. Feel free to delete it, just wanted to pass on potential savings to other 4th gen members.

With that deal a set of 4 Duratrac 275/65/18 would run $828 to my door after all rebates. Even after paying a shop to mount/balance that's probably still under a grand.

Seems too good to pass up. Has anyone managed to get these tires this cheap??

Looks like Duratrac's are only $25 instant rebate. I've noticed that most of the time when a dealer runs a promotion like this the price of the tire (prediscount) is raised to compensate for the discount.

For instance, a 285/70/17 Duratrac on discounttire.com will run you 268$ each. whereas a 285/70/17 Duratrac on discounttiredirect.com is listed at 280$ each but since they are running a 25$ instant rebate you pay almost the exact same price. (It's actually cheaper to get them at the full price on discounttire.com)

Not saying that there aren't deals that will allow you to actually save a decent amount on tires but make sure you do your research before hand. Many of the deals like "buy 3 and get the 4th free" are like that because they build the price of the 4th tire into the other 3 tires.

If you got those same 285/70-17 Duratrac tires from Tire Rack with shipping and taxes they would be $296 each after shipping, tax and $60 rebate.

Thanks you for posting this. I need new tires for my truck (265/75-16's) and I was going to stick with the General Grabbers AT2s that I have on it now but I'm going to give the Cooper AT3's a try. Partly because I've read a lot of good things about them but also because on top the of the $100 off DTD deal, there is also a $80 Cooper gift card/rebate going on. Between the 2 deals, I will be able to get the 4 new tires for ~$480 shipped.

Can't beat that deal with a stick!

I stand corrected! Buying through eBay does not charge you sales tax. And they are about $~10 cheaper through the eBay store.

That's not what I am seeing.

On the website, 275/65/18 DuraTracs are $252/ea for a total of $1,008 before mounting, etc. Total with install/disposal fee is $1082, and then you can get a $60 mail in rebate in the form of a prepaid Visa for a total of $1022 installed.

On the eBay store, a set of 2 tires is $544, or $272 each. There is a $100 instant rebate on the set of 2 dropping that to $444 per pair. 2 pair makes a set of 4 for $888 with free shipping to my door. The $60 Visa prepaid card still applies too so $828. My local Discount Tire (actually America's tire here in Oregon) will mount/balance for $96 ($24/tire) bringing the total to $924. The site does state pretty clearly that you can use the $100 off coupon up to 3 times per account, so at worst I think you'd just have to separate the transactions for 2 tires each. Unless they're being really sneaky and have some super fine print somewhere that is.

So unless I am missing something it comes out about $100 cheaper ($1022 vs $924) to buy from the eBay store and take them in and pay the local shop for mount/balance. Perhaps a local store would match that, but just punching in the orders online it looks like the eBay deal is cheaper.

I changed the title and made the ebay part bold. It may not be the best deal for everybody, but it can work out to the best deal depending on what you need and how you order it.

And when they don't have an advertised sale in place, one can usually negotiate with the dealer in person at the store. The store manager at my local store is more than willing to do what it takes to get my business. He will always beat price of nearby Costco, with or without coupon. He also accommodated my request for a discount on the road hazard warranty.

I have never bought tires from a Discount Tire store that would not match or beat any advertise price, including mounting balance and warranty. I bought my first set of Road Hugger tires from Discount Tires in 1973. Been buying tires from them ever since.

You just need to talk to them and negotiate a little.

This is so legit. I was able to get my local Discount Tire store to match the Discount Tire Direct Ebay store's prices. Even though this seems kinda backwards because they are basically matching themselves... they agreed to it. I just simply called and let them know that the Discount Tire Direct Ebay store was offering 275/70-17 BFG ATs at $250 a piece. I explained to him that you could make 2 purchases of 2 tires each and get them for $200 off, as long as the 2 separate purchases were over $400. That's $800 OTD; No tax, no shipping charges, I pay for install. The guy at discount tire said he would have to call to check with his mgr, but took down my number and said he would call me back. Just got off the line with him and he said he would match it. BOOYAH! Thanks for the heads up @xpeppyx!!

Thanks peppy, you just saved me $200. They aren't advertising the promotion anymore however I did call them directly and the code still works when use it on the page after you select buy. The sales rep also told me it is only valid until march 14th but they can remove it anytime so don't wait.

Got some Cooper Discoverers AT3 for $574.08. With the $80 mail-in rebate from Cooper, works out to be $123.52. Pretty good I'd say.

The better deal was found at their website and not the eBay store.
