Hear Ye Hear Ye: Cheapest Toyota Platinum Warranty!

Unless the others have lowered their price, Shaun has the killingest price - special for fellow T4R members! And it works fine - at least in Arizona (Shaun's dealership is in PA).

I have been trying to email shaun, but no reply. Who is Scott Moss, and where can I email him?

This is my post on another forum from May 05.

He asked that I told everyone to call 1-800-5-TOYOTA which is the main switchboard and then ask for Scott Moss, John Ward, Jenna or Betty. They are all aware of the extended warranty price and can help get your requests done as quickly as possible.

From the Sienna forum where I found him... no I don't own a minivan LOL.

Is shaun still offereing the warranty? Would this be cheaper if there was a $100 deductiable?
You can call Shaun at 800-331-5056. As of the end of December, he was still offering it -- I bought the 7/75K zero deductible for $550. With only 21K miles at 3 years, I didn't see the need to get the 100K version.

I called him, had everything in hand the next morning.

Didn't ask about the price for a $100 deductible -- figured it wouldn't save much.

California and Extended Warranty

First of all, there are not any "warranty police" that will burst in to your house and take you away. You can call them up, and order this warranty via telephone. I did it with a Ford Explorer I owned. I called the dealership back East and gave them my Credit card number, miles, and VIN and received a "real Ford" Extra care warranty a couple of weeks later in the mail. Some of you are right, there is a law that says this, but it is like any other product you buy over the phone, not the Internet. Most dealers could care less about where you live and will be happy to have your extended warranty business. When you receive the warranty (if it's like the Ford one) it will state what dealer you purchased it from, but ANY TOYOTA DEALER MUST HONOR IT!!
Hope this helps!!

If I buy a new car now with the factory warranty, can I now buy the Extended Warranty that kicks if for 7 years AFTER the factory warranty expires? Or can one wait until near the date that the factory warranty and buy then? Understand that at that time in the future the price may go up. Just wondering how these things work.

You may be right but maybe on a $40K car it may be worth $ 800 for a additional 7 years of coverage. Maybe not but that was not the question.

So, assuming that we are all suckers - anything useful to add?

It will be the same price, as long as you still have the original factory warranty. Once the original warranty goes out & you try to buy an extended one, they figure you might have something already wrong as your motive to buy it. The extended warranty period is usually taken from the original "in service" date (i.e. new).

I used to think that as well. I NEVER bought them for anything, as it is obviously a well calculated scheme to make them money!

But I got my 6/100k for $700. I was persuaded by talking with various people from two dealership, whom I had some respect for (no, they were not in sales). What I was hearing was that while the mechanicals were pretty much bullit-proof, it was the electronics that had much more issues. And the electronics were very expensive.

I knew that I was going to put my 'Runner thru some pretty severe paces - pulling a large trailer up mountains in broiling heat, offroading, etc. So for $700 I went for it.

Shortly thereafter the VSC started to give me trouble by wanting to pull the vehicle off the road (applying brakes by itself). In 3 trips to two dealers I easily burned through over $2,100, as they diagnosed & replaced the yaw sensor & traction control computer. BINGO! Just like they said - electronics!

I figure that Toyota can be relied upon to build a high quality vehicle the 1st new model year. BUT, even NASA & countless others haven't been able to get the computer systems right the 1st time out.

My out of pocket for the over $2,000 ticket? About $140 (to have it diagnosed on the road).

So before you make a broad-brush statement (i.e. warranty buyers = suckers), you need to consider some of the buyer's circumstances. In the right situation, an extended warranty might be the calculated right thing to do.

I like to think of my extended warranty like I do car insuarance: Its better to have it than not need it, than need it and not have it

If you don't plan to keep the truck for its lifetime, then the extended warranty isn't for you. But like TerryT mentioned, the electronics on this vehicle are very advanced and I'd hate to have to pay for the repairs.

$1450 for a 7/100 is NOT a good price! If you look down to about message 6 or 7 in this thread, I talk about how this same warranty is $825 thru Shaun! He has the best prices I found - cheaper than Scott or the other person I mentioned at the start of this thread. Look at the message where I talk about Shaun's deal & call him (some have said he doesn't reply to that e-mail I gave any more)!

ON EDIT: I now see where someone got one cheapre than this from Scott - so I stand correct. But either of them is a little more than half what my local dealer would do!

I think you misunderstood my comments. Of course you are correct. What I mean is that the price from Scott was a great deal because the LIST price is $ 1450 for 7/100K/0. When I said "This price is great..." The "THIS meant what we were talking about in the tread.

Cheers!

And that is the thing that seemed to be common across knowledgeable people I talked with. Beleive me, I'm the LAST person that would go for an extended warranty. But when you keep hearing about "expensive electronic repairs," you start to pay attentention.

Now with that said, I hope two things:

1. No more electronics ever go out
2. We never have an electromagnetic pulse! :runaway:

does this warranty offer a refund if you don't use it when it expired? I know some extended warranty does. i trough the factory was 50k?
