Heat not hot and OD acting up............

I bought an 89 4Runner about 5 years ago, and the rig has been great. Just changed the oil again today at 234443 miles (been avg. 3500 m a change). I'm having a problem with the heat and the OD kicking in. It's an AT, and I've heard it has to be a certain temp to kick in. Ok, but it's not that cold in VA yet, but the tranny will cut back back off of OD after being started for 30+ mins, all fluids are at maintenance level. Could this be a sensor problem?

Is the temp gage up to normal temp? It sounds to me like your thermostat is not working and not letting the engine get up to temp.

Temp gauge doesn't move anymore, I have a new thermostat, just haven't installed yet.

this beast has 234K+ miles on it, engine runs great, but it was the "electric" model, all new high fallootin' button's for 89, to which none of them work anymore, thank God the key still opens the rear window!
