heated mirrors?

Yep, they turn on when you press the rear defrost. If you want to test it out, take your 4r to somewhere there is a quick temperature change, eg. Car wash bay in the morning. Check your side views b4 and after turning it on. Then you will know. Or move to canada, then you will wish you never asked the question in the first place, he he.

If you spray some water in the mirror and hit the defrost button, you should see a shape develop where the heating element is behind the mirror.

FYI- The rear window has to be initialized for the defrost and side mirrors to work.

SR5 heated mirrors

FIY, I believe SR5's from '06+ have the heated mirror connection in the door, but is just unused. Rock Auto has the heated mirrors for a phenomenal price (as does Parts Geek, but a little bit more $). I've been considering getting some and putting them on. Haven't heard of anybody going this route. There was an older thread discussing Muth heated mirror upgrades which were replacing the mirror glass, IIRC. Getting the mirrors from Rock Auto seems like an easy plug-and-play solution. You'll just get the standard black color (which SR5's have anyway...)

Is that true for all fourth gens?

At least for the 04's, so I believe it would be the same going forward. Here is it listed in the sales brochure.

Hmm, this is something I'll have to consider. All of my previous cars had heated mirrors, so I'll probably miss it come winter time.

Interesting. I didn't even realize I had them. I'm been through a handful of -40 winters with my rig and never found a significant build up of ice on the mirrors. I don't think I even had them turned on because I rarely run my rear window defroster.

On my 05 Sport they activate when you hit the rear defrost button. Not sure how they do on heavy snow but they clear foggy mist very quickly 9and in a noticeable pattern)

It's funny -my '99 SR5 had heated mirrors but my '07 SR5 doesn't. Seems odd they'd "delete" a feature like that.

Haven't had any issues though, even in Colorado.

I get iced over mirrors a lot on the east coast, it's mostly in warmer (near freezing) weather when it is snowing/freezing rain. We quite often have to scrape them in the mornings just like windshield/windows.

when it's -40 everything is already frozen.

Edit: also had them in my 2000 SR5, agreed that it is odd that they "deleted" that feature on the SR5 4th gens.
