Heated Seats ... stupid question

So I assumed my 2000 4Runner Limited came fully loaded, with heated seats. Both the driver and passenger seats are fully adjustable, electric seats, and the vehicle obviously comes in leather.

Where the hell are the heaters for the seats? lol, i've looked everywhere, and i've never heard of leather seats coming without heaters here in Canada ....

I was also wondering, on some models i've seen vents in the rear part of the console for the back seats .... mine seems to have the fan switch, and temnperature sticker (minus the control itself) but no vents. Whats the deal with that? Is that an option I obviously don't have? I find it strange they would keep the toggle button there and temp. sticker .....

thanks!

IIRC, the heated seats were a dealer add-on option? I believe they did not come from the factory with heated seats until 2003 (4th Gen). Could be wrong, though. You can always add on an aftermarket system for pretty cheap nowadays, though.

The vents for the rear heat is under the seats (both driver and passenger). You can feel it blow when you have the fan on low or high.

hmmm, ok .... and if I did have heated seats, where would the control be? Is there a separate control for those rear vents? I have the toggle switch and temp stricker on the rear part of the console, but nothing there to adjust the temp .... seems very strange!

thanks!

The controls would definitely be clearly visible. It's where ever the dealership decides to mount them. I have seen it right next to the gear lever or by the e-brake.

RE: rear heat, there should be a lever to adjust the heat right above the sticker. Maybe yours fell off? Just turn the toggle switch on and see if you're getting heat.

This one doesn't have heated seats either. This is an oddly equipped model because its also 4WD but doesn't have the badge on the back. it's a 2000 from eBay.

There is where the heated seat controls would be, to the left of the steering wheel. This however, like mine, is a 2002

The heat vents for the rear are under the seats.

All cars are desinged with punchouts for possible future add-ons or options as the generation progresses and it is nice for the DIYer to have a selection of places for switches.

Plus some options are offered differently in parts of the world.

well thats a bummer .... guess i'll be looking for some aftermarket ones .... I can't imagine someone purchasing a vehicle with leather, and not going for that option when we regularly have -30c ... crazy!

Thanks for the replies!

ive used my headed seats all but of twice since i have owned the thing.

my girlfriend on the other hand....

Heated passenger seat

My 2000 limited I never knew had a heated passenger seat until in adding new foam and leather. Odd that there are no switches for it either. Anyway taking that element and moving it over to the new foam so I can add a switch

That's almost certainly the Occupancy Sensor (turns the stupid pass seatbelt light on/off Only).

Heated seats by Vent? Never herd such a thing. Its always been heated coils in the seat like a heated blanket.
