The heater core in our 2002 4Runner started leaking recently.
(I had to bypass the backseat heater core years ago)
With 298K miles on this vehicle I really can't justify the cost and effort to replace it so a heater core bypass was the best option again.
Dayco Molded Heater Hose - Part# B86050 from AutoZone fit perfectly into place and did the trick.

Just make sure when you by-pass the line, it should go through the heater core valve otherwise most of the hot coolant will go through the by pass and not through the radiator.
I hope your problem is not with the heater core. I have a thread about removing the heater core in a 3rd gen and it is 2 day full time work.
