I can smell my heater core starting to leak. Does anyone know roughly how long it takes to replace? Hopefully it doesn't require the removal of the entire dash? I haven't really looked at it yet, just putting out feelers here.

I can't smell mine, just that heat is about 50% hot. I was looking into to just replacing heater core, however to get to the core, you would have to take apart most of the dash+ some. I hear it is pretty tedious work, but wont know till i try. lol good luck.
I've installed an AC unit on another vehicle which required removal of the heater box to modify the blend door. The heater box also houses the heater core. Removing the heater box required that I take apart most of the dash since the box was rather large and since the heater core is attached to the firewall. This is a doable job, but it'll take you the good portion of a day to complete.

Yeah, I was afraid of that. Of all the things I've done in shops over the years, I like heater cores the least.

I blew a heater core in my old car. Actually flooded the floor with coolant. Damn near ran off the highway when the steam hit the windshield. I neglected to flush the coolant as scheduled and it corroded.
I learned my lesson! Had to temporarilly bypass the heater core with some hose until I could afford to fix it. I froze my sack off last winter.
