Heavier? Rock sliders w/kickout or running boards

That's what I kinda figured that the sliders would be much heavier...there's a local guy here that fabricates them and they look exactly like the ones on ebay..he also mention about either welding them or have the mounting bolt brackets but would cost a lil more...any you guys have them bolted or weld to the body? Don't like the idea oh having them welded just incase the wife demands to have them off...lol
 
As far as weight goes adding sliders at 100 - 150 pounds to a 4,000+ pound truck is nothing. Weld or bolt-on doesn't matter, I've had both and as long as the bolt-on is designed correctly they will be as strong as welded sliders.
 
They weld to the frame, not the body.
Mine are bolt on, but I would prefer welded. Can't see any reason to ever remove them.
 
Sliders are definitely heavier as other folks have mentioned but you probably won't notice the weight difference. Bolt on typically cost more and there are less choices than the weld on options. That being said, they can be easily added or removed and are typically just as strong as weld on sliders.

Some sliders come with a top plate option which is handy if you have folks who will be using it frequently as a step. In addition, they add some body protection from road/trail debris.

The ones I was looking at have a kickout so u can use it as a step which i think it's very handy esp if u have kids getting in and out the rig...I find the running board stick out quite a bit, but I guess u can have them adjusted to where u want em before weld...

I have the BAMF with kick outs so I could use them as steps. Going to apply a strip of 3M anti-slip tread strips.
 
Painted the top half of mine with wing walk compound.

I tried the 3m tape also, not a good idea. Don't let bare skin, slide across it.
I have mine painted gloss black.
I ended up taping off a area to paint rust-oleum Textured ( fine textured finish), as a strip tape section. It gives it just of a non slip surface when your shoes are wet.
 
I use the 3M tape and like it, when I touch-up the sliders I paint right over it and it's fine. It took my youngest grandkids a couple scrapes to learn to be careful but even the 4 year old deals just fine with it now.
