i need a heavier suspension for my 2wd SE than the stock system to hold up my soon to come arb bull bar. i would like to keep the x-reas and also want some lift. iv been reccomended OME and just fj springs but who has any other ideas? does anyone know how much taller the fj springs will make my 4runner?

OME doesn't recommend using it's springs w/XREAS. A user at T120 did it for several years with no ill effects but did suggest that the rebound dampening was a little light. He used 884 or 885's I forget. But agin, OME doesn't recommend it.

There is a an 883OME that might be a good option for your front end. It is 20mm shorter than a 884 and a bit taller (approx20mm) than the 4wd FJC spring. 20mm will = about 40mm of suspension lift. 25.4mm=1inch

The FJC front spring will lift a V6 almost 3/4 of an inch and a V8 about a 1/2 inch.

good to know. im not sure if this is a good idea but how about fjc springs with a 2.5/2 daystar lift?

I think FJC springs and a Daystar would rock. If mine retired from DD duty that

anyone else?

I have the FJC 4x4 springs with the DS top-out spacer. Total lift = a hair under 3". Even with the 2" DS spacer in the rear it still looks to have a little prerunner stance to it. I am contemplating the addition of a front mount winch. I think with another 100+ lbs up front it should be ok.

My only fear with the FJC/DS 2.5/2 lift with a ARB bull bar is that the preload of the Xreas system may lead to premature failure. I'm not sure how much the ARB bull bar weighs, but I'm sure it's a couple hundred pounds (much more under hard breaking, sudden downward vertical motion, etc.).

Chris, what do you think about that?

I would say that a change to an entirely aftermarket setup will save you some headaches in the future. You can even try to sell your complete Xreas system to offset the price of its replacement.

Good luck!

Are you guys talking about a full bumper set-up with a bull bar or just an ARB Nudge bar?

Off the cuff I'd say the extra weight will not hurt the XREAS. Reason: As the front is compressed the fluid from the RF shock will be pushed to the LR shock and the LF shock fluid will be pushed to the RR shock. So long as there's a place for the displaced fluid to go (and there is) it should be fine.

Will there be enough dampening? I don't know. It depends on how much weight you put up front and what your preference is.

That's my 2cents...

Check out toyota120.com as they are more towards off road modification. Someone will be able to answer your question directly. No offense to others who have posted. They simply have first hand experience

thanks guys. is there a lighter alternative to the arb bull bar? the reason i want the full bumper is because of the added clearance in front. so i can approach the hills and stuff without worryining about rubbing my bumper

There are tube bumpers. I think Demello Off-road has one... or at least they were prototyping one. If they don't have something I'm sure Jason will be able to point you in the right direction.

Do you have a V6 or V8? If you have the V8 then I can't comment. Hell, none of us have the DS/FJC/ARB setup. I guess you get to be the guinea pig

I can only guess... My guess is that it would do pretty good. I have pushed down with my body weight (hood open) and it goes down very little. I think it would drive pretty well with me sitting on the hood. Steering would be tough though...:lmao: The right answer, of course, would be coilovers. As an inexpensive, good setup I think it would work well with upto 200lbs. It may "feel" best and most balanced with the stock T4R springs in the rear and the FJC springs on the front if your bumper is heavy and you ride empty...

The bottom line is thetaxguy is right, you're the first to do this exact combo. None of us can give you definative answer on a subjective thing like suspension especially when none of us have the exact setup you're going to use.

would coilovers mean replacing my x-reas?

Yes, I forgot about the XREAS. Many take it off with no regrets. You do need to replace the rear shocks at the same though. You can not add coilovers to the front without changing the rear shocks as the XREAS rear shocks can't work without having XREAS front shocks.

i want to do that at some point but i need the lift for offroading this summer and there aint no way i can come up with the cash for that. but i guess if i do that i can get a pretty good size lift so i wont have to buy the skid plates i was planning on. if i get about a 4 inch lift what will my clearance be?

so the types of suspension i have heard of are the ICON SAW and toyotec. who has these and what are your experiances with them?
