I heat my house with wood.
No longer have a pickup so I am weighing my options.
What is the realistic limit for towing a trailer full of firewood with a 3.0 4Runner?
A pickup load is 1/2 a cord. That is, split wood stacked to the top of the rails. Previously, I hauled it in a 1/2 ton truck and at 2750 pounds for the 1/2 cord dry oak, I was way over the limit but doable.
Assuming I get a trailer with an axle that can handle 3500 pounds, can I tow 3000 pounds, wood and trailer, short distances without killing my 1995 4Runner? Figuring auto trans, transfer case, axle, brakes. What else can go wrong?
