Height Control System

My '03 limited height control system will not return to normal. Although the indicator light shows "N" (normal), the rear suspention is stuck in high. I suspect a sensor problem. Are their any simple fixes, or do I need to get a dealer diagnostic?

I ran into this exact same problem while my T4R was in for a simple oil change at the dealership.

The height control jacked up the back end like it was a drag car.

Once they got the back end down to a normal height, we decided to disable the height control.

Way too expensive to start trying to replace sensors or actuators for something I rarely use anyways.

Damn fancy technology :P

How do you disable it?

I'm wondering how gas mileage is affected if I just left it in Low vs normal, but i can't do that since everytime I go over 15mph or whatever it goes back to normal.

same happen to my friend cruiser and he had to change these parts.
 
Height Control Sensor

So after all the help this forum has been I thought I might post my 2 cents even though this is an older thread. Recently the 4Runner started sitting rather high in the rear end, turned out the bracket holding the height control sensor had corroded and split in two. The sensor and control arm were just hanging on by the wiring. The sensor was frozen but I managed to get it moving after dismantling and soaking it in WD-40. After cleaning I could move the arm with some effort. When I started up the truck the height control system went into safe mode since it was missing one sensor. It dropped down to normal cruising height and showed "Normal" on the dashboard with the height control "Off" flashing on the dash, I was tempted to just leave it like that since a new arm and bracket is 425+tax up here. However I have never been fond of putting black tape over warning lights. I managed to find the right resistance (2.5 Kohm's) in the sensor (why am I paying that much for a variable resistor when I can buy them for a couple of bucks) that kept both sides inflated to the right height, plugged it back in and taped it to the body. So now I have the right height, no flashing lights on the dash, and the High and Low switches still work (not that that does much good). This a least gives me time to decide whether I will make a new bracket for the existing sensor, buy a new sensor or disable the automatic height control and rewire the High/Low switch for manual inflation/deflation.
