I'm pretty sure this hasn't been discussed unless it's buried in a thread somewhere. When it comes to offroad driving lamps which brand is better? what about fog lamps?

I must say this is developing into a thrilling and insightful discussion, lol.
IMO and experience, Hellas are the more cost efficient way to go while PIAA might be more quality and more durable. In the end though, I don't really care what or who lights up the road, so for usability and effectiveness I'd say they're very similar, just one might have a different look you might like better or one might be a different color, or one might have a few more meters or so of visibility.
For the cost and what you get, I'd go Hellas personally. And I did.
Other big names in lights would be KC, IPF (? I think thats what they're called), and lightforce. And as I understand it thats how they go quality-wise as well, lowest being KC, then IPF and then Lightforce.

Well, i just added the piaa 540's, and man does it make a huge difference. I can't believe how much they light up the road w/o making people high beam me. I have them mounted on the westin safari bar and it looks good. And for those that have the sliverstars, it really compliments them b/c the are xtreme white bulbs.

I can get all the Piaa's now but haven't added them all to the site. Piaa's are made really well. Another choice are the Jaos lights I have, which are 8 inch in diameter. There are a few versions. One is low beam H3 version, and the other is a dual hi/low beam H4 version. Both come with a remote control so you can activate them from outside the truck. A bunch more einfo on my site.

I got the 540's and man do they light up the road. They match the silversars very well

I had the standard Hella lights on my old Rav4 (The big round ones, forgot the model). Definitely very bright and nice. I went with PIAA 580s for my 4Runner, and they are definitely brighter, but also much more expensive. If money is an issue, Hella's are very good. If you have money to spend, go with PIAAs. It also depends on what you want to use them for. Driving lights, in most situations, can't be used on regular roads. Chunderboy has smaller PIAAs that are mounted lower due to his brush guard set up, so I think he can use them more frequently than I can, since mine are mounted higher up (plus I have a lift kit). Keep this in consideration too before you purchase.
I went with the fog model (as opposed to driving lights) because the beam pattern, while not quite as far projecting, can be used on normal roads. No way I could use the PIAA 580s if they were driving lights. The Hella's I had before were really too bright to use even in normal driving circumstances, and If I'm going to spend that kind of money, might as well be able to use them.

Lightforce 170's !!!
I'd recommend the Lightforce 170 strykers. They have plenty of throw and output and you can ADJUST the beams from wide to pencil just by rotating the ratcheted housing. They also offer various lens "filter/covers" that convert the lamps into a "fog pattern" and change the color for various conditions like fog and snow. I use three: one pencil in the middle for down road illumination and two on each side set "wide" with the "fog" filters on to enhance the width of the beam for cornering. They are high quality, light weight, and @$215/pr. Nice Kit! (as the Aussies say).

Another bump for Lightforce!!!
I have the 240 XGT's and it's super bright! Definitely can't turn them on the way home from work! haha (prob get a big a$$ ticket).
170's are a nice size but if you really want to go w/ the bling, go for the 240 (the non xgt so you can adjust them like the 170s! - i think hehe)
