Hellamatic - Build Thread

New here, just had to say I really appreciated following this thread tonight... I read the whole thing haha. Keep up the good work man.

Just read through your thread. Awesome looking rig and jealous of your trip. More updates please!!
Thanks man - haven't posted a ton of updates due to the drastic slowdown in my industry this year, (and $8000/year extra taxation by our shitty provincial government as an extra nut kick,)as well as the severely reduced buying power of the Canadian dollar this year. Still lots coming though. Maybe a long overdue suspension upgrade come tax return time.

I am curious to know which sliders are on your 4R (not mentionned in the Build)?
Did you encountered any problems during installation because of KDSS (your canadian Trail should have it I guess)?

My sliders are a preproduction prototype from All-Pro - I've never actually checked their website to see if they sell them, but I'd imagine they do. KDSS lines posed a slight issue, but you just have to manhandle them into place. I just coaxed them into position with a jack and hammer and welded them on.

Thanks. After looking at their web site, sliders are only available up to 2009.

Fast forward a couple weeks - here my machine sits with the newly installed Ultra "Gauntlet" rims. I have also added an Airaid intake and a Flowmaster cat-back exhaust

Hey what back spacing are your Gauntlets? Getting ready to order some tomorrow

how do you like the ARB front bumper.. trying to decide if I want one or simply a hidden type winch mount setup?

Hey there boys and girls, I'm still around - just haven't been on the forum due to no progress on the 4runner build (and I'm tired of talking about tires and bug deflectors, haha.) It's been a tough year due to a drastic slowdown in my industry - I barely made half as much money this year, so not a lot of spare cash for luxury items. Couple that with a weak Canadian dollar and our spectacularily sh!tty provincial and federal governments, and it results in not a lot of build progress.

So, I didn't get eaten by a bear Jhalko - I'm sure there's a joke in there about eating plenty of beavers, but I don't have the motivation to make it today.

All said, there has been a couple updates to the truck - but first, another reason that the build has been temporarily slowed down:
<a href="http://s1262.photobucket.com/user/kelseyreder/media/IMG_7032_zpsomeh50a8.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1262.photobucket.com/albums/ii615/kelseyreder/IMG_7032_zpsomeh50a8.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_7032_zpsomeh50a8.jpg"/></a>

I picked up this hulk late in the summer from a buddy for a fair price. It's a 1950 Mercury M-68. It's essentially just a rolling cab and front clip - not much there to work with, but an excellent blank canvas for a project. There's a couple companies that build a complete pro-touring chassis for these trucks, so that's the route I think I'll go once this economy turns around. In the meantime, I'm waiting for winter to end so I can begin getting the bodywork all straightened out.

Now, on to the couple updates to the 4runner:

Tossed on an ARB awning at the end of May - I only got a chance to get out camping once this year at a buddy's pond on his property, but I definitely look forward to getting a lot of use out of the awning.

And, now the most recent. I've had a set of winter tires sitting around for like a year and a half now, and just got around to mounting them on some steelies this week. The wheels have a really nerdy-looking offset, but overall they suit the truck pretty well.
