Hello all! Some pics and a brush guard question.

Hey everyone, well this is my first post here(i think), lol.

I got my 1996 4runner limited 4wd handed down from my dad a few months ago when he bought his 2008. I have always loved this vehicle and now i own it! She is 258,000 miles young and runs like a champ!

I have done the fixed antenae conversion and added a bluetooth/cd player. I replaced all the little lights in the center dash area and did the newer console/cupholder/ebrake swap. I added 6000k Xenon Depot HIDs with black housing head lamps. The fuel gauge was inaccurate so i replaced the sensor and did a Walbro 255 at the same time. The front seats were redone too! I got a new paintjob on the vehicle with everything blacked out and some damage repaired.

I do have one question for everyone. Back when i got it it had the 5 slot taillight guards and a 3 slot brush guard(by "slots" i am referring to the little protective bars that run horizontal directly in front of the headlights). I sold the parts since they were bent and i want the exact same ones to go back on(there was no name brand or stickers on them). I know there are like 100 companies that sell similar designs but i was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I noticed the Polar Bear taillight guards look like they have some sort of wierd indention in the taillight guards tubing, and the Polar Bear brush guard is only 2 slot. I actually bought and installed a Westin brush guard on dads 2008 and the fit and finish were horrible. So any ways its the black 3 slot brush guard that goes up in the back sides at an angle to compliment the lines of the car. Any ideas?

ps...sorry still trying to figure out how to post pics.

Did you not read his post? Lol.

He repainted all of it.

I think you should paint the plastic piece on the rear bumper. Also work on the exhaust tip. Maybe darker tint also, I think you have done this though. Just some helpful criticism.

Honestly I'm a little undecided on the whole blacking out thing. Maybe if it had some larger rims on it.

Looks nice, like clemson said id spray that tailpipe down and take the rear plastic off and spray it with some duplicolor trim spray.

Welcome to TR4.ORG!!

That's gotta be the nicest looking 4runner with 260,000 miles on it. I think your limited badge on the tailgate is a little oddly placed.

Anyways, I replied because there are a few brush guards that look very similar. The one that I had was made by Manik and sounds like it may be similar to yours. I'd tell you to try a search here for pictures, but don't waste your time. Maybe try at search a yotatech where you can actually get results. I have to drop some stuff off at storage this week so I will try to remember to bring my camera and snap a pic of the Manik collecting dust.

That would be awesome if you could snap a shot or two!

Thanks for the compliments guys. I have been told by a few of my friend to take care of the exhaust tip so i think i will black it out with high temp paint.

As far as that plastic piece the painter asked if i wanted to do it but since i figured it would get stepped on and things set on it when loading and unloading i said no(kinda like the running boards). Think its really worth it?

I agree the emblems are placed odd i actually tried to pull them off and it took the new paint with them.:bash: Long story short i had it redone. Oh yea i also got a new windshield, best $150 i ever spent. It wasnt even cracked but had a bunch of pit marks that in the sunlight were very annoying.

Well i got it for free and have put $4400 in it right now. I got a good deal on everything (shop hook-ups and what not) but funny how it all adds up. I honestly like it better than the 4th gens and its now my primary driver, but id still like to add a lift and bigger tires. I think ill keep the rims or go with something off roady. Im stuck between the clean city look and the off road military look. I think im leaning toward the latter.:awais:

Awesome look with the all blacked out exterior. Have any interior shots? And if you could find a good high quality black chrome exhaust tip I bet that would look good

truck looks very nice and clean, can't wait to see any more updates.

and murdered out always looks good, but storm-troopin' is the new thing to do :bigok:

I have never actually heard the terms "murdered out" and "storm troopin", lol. I only buy cars in black, silver or white. And i usually like the wheels black. Guess i have to figure out what the silver look is called:bigok:

Well heres a few shots of the interior, and a couple of my other baby. Wish i had before shots of the seats, they were old cracked leather. The new ones were redone at a custom interior shop in vinyl. I figured it would be more resiliant than leather. Plus i told the guy i was on a budget. I had also considered the seat covers available on the internet but in the end decided i would not be satisfied with the fit. I think i made the right choice.

howd you do that cupholder mod? i hate that pull out cupholder, and the right side spring that pulls it out is broken. anyone know how to fix that?

Welcome to Tr4.org! and welcome to bein blacked out of black on black! black is sure a damn good lookin runner when its clean. good job! im not the biggest fan of the wood trim but i duno yours makes it look kinda cool. keep us posted on those mods!

Yea im not really a wood grain fan either, maybe ill take care of that down the road.

I did not use night shade tint though i have used that before. The painter did it and referred to it as "candy black". It shows the light through really well.

The headlights are hids and the headlamps housings are the so called JDM ones one ebay. My only gripe is they dispaly a really wierd choppy light pattern i dont really like. Anyone know of any others available?

As far as the cupholder mod there is a write up on the internet im sure plenty of people here can link you. You have to buy the console, cupholder, bracket, ebrake assmbly, and also reroute the switches. It is the best mod i have done and would do it again in a heart beat. Oh yea, they dont tell you this but you will have to cut the body of the vehicle with a sawzall. But dont worry its just to increase the opening for the new ebrake tub.

If you guys understand my question about the front brushguard and rear taillight guards and actually have some on your ride that fit my description id appreciate it if you can post some pics. Thanks!
