Hello everyone, I am 18 form upstate new york, and my 2nd generation i've had since i learned to drive, love it.

'93 SR5 V6.

I've been hit in the rear twice, so i had to get a new tailgate from ebay, and a new bumper.

ok now the problem. Like i said i live in Upstate new york, and this is a daily driver = lots of rust. thus far i've been sanding it down and repainting over it. but now i want to cut it all off, and add fender flares. however all i can find is those bushwacker extent-a-flares for a 93 4runner, and which hardly give any information at all. can someone give me their expert advice? i'd like to avoid body work and welding, but i want to get this rust off before it grows even further.

Fender flares would help cover up the rust... but what I'd be most concerned with is having anything to attach the flares to.

The rust on your rear wheel archs is BAD.

I'd suggest taking it to a body shop and having the rust sand blasted. This will remove all the rust and let you know what you have to work with. Hopefully you will have something left to attach some flares to.

ah, thank you. my neighbor actually has a sand blaster, i'm trying to make this cost efficient. but what i'm curious as to how high up the flares will go. wanna make sure that it would cover all the rust, and like you say, that there is something left to attach to, and not just a big hole.

if you luck out and you only have surface rust.... Once its all sandblasted, you can ruff up the exposed metal and fill it with some body filler (bondo, etc).
I'm not sure what your mechanical/body work capabilities are... but you gotta start somewhere... and you cant mess up with bondo... cuz if you sand too much off... you can just put more back on and sand it.
