Welcome from another former Xterra owner (a 2000 to be exact). So, you want to know about reliability of the '05's. Well, I currently own an '05 V6 with 115k on the clock. To date, I have only had one solitary issue with my Runner and that was with the A/C evap coil, which had to be replaced at 105k miles and seems to fail on several Runners hitting 100k. Other reported mechanical issues with '03-'05 by some, are head gasket failures and seized brake calipers but I think the head gasket failures are a minority. Also, and this is purely an aesthetic issue, the dash on '03-'05's tend to crack. The cracks are hairline, but you can see them and this happens to the VAST majority of the years I mentioned. I'll let others describe any issues regarding the V8's. Hope that helps you out!
