Hello everyone. I am the proud owner of a 95 4runner, sr5 v6 4x4 limited. I'll try to get around to posting pics.
I've only ever heard good things about Toyotas so it lead me to my purchase.
I had a 96 ford escort hb, and in truth the little bas**** was a beast that never let me down. I did things to that vehicle on and off road that are just not right, but beyond fun; as well as consistent 300 mile trips every other weekend. Someone decided to ignore a stop sign and accelerated into me while driving my son to school. Luckily no one was hurt. But the escort was no more in the eyes of insurance. I foolishly salvaged instead of parting it out. Anyway,
Turned out to be a blessing in disguise, except for fuel economy.
30 minutes after a local placed a craigslist add for a 95 4runner for 3900, I replied. I test drove it that night and bought it the next day for 3000. The tires were all the same size but different brand. The cel was on. Dents, etc... The kbb was higher than the price in fair condition, based locally for what I bought it at. The seller was a friendly and honest, very bible study sort of guy who was selling it for his wife, a Sunday school teacher. He went over every last problem he had before mentioning the positives. They were very easy for me to trust, but perhaps I am a sucker for those with young children.
Either way, almost 3 months later I am happy with my 95 4runner that has 196k miles on it now. 192k at purchase.
I live in Flagstaff az, up in the mountains. The vehicle, for the most part, runs great. I've been lurking the forums since I bought it and recently made an account.
I started browsing the forums for DIY repair and maintenance.
So newbie questions for the forums,
Where do I ask about repair and maintenance questions?
Where can I get a diagram explaining all the parts and locations of such? ( I have the Chilton, but it is too broad in some areas.) and is the Haynes any different or better?
Are there any northern az people who want to help a newb out, or adventure? (I've taken it to the cinder pits, around the peaks, all over woody mountain, Sedona and then some; mud, snow, sand, any element, this machine is great. I even pulled a random jeep owner out of three feet of mud by random chance off of old walnut canyon. Toyotas save people and ignorant people alike.)
I love the vehicle, it's been a blast so far, but there are some mechanical issues that I'd like to get figured out. I am really diy, but I need something to go off of and I need people that know by experience. That's how I discovered these forums and so far I've learned a lot. I was able to repair my cel 71 thanks to you all, saving me $300+ (the Chilton did help a bit as well)
Glad to be a 4runner owner. Hello everyone who already knows. Easy to take pride in such a machine. It's a beast and it's performance makes this realist smile. Except for some power issues, I like it more than the 98 jeep Cherokee sport I used to have.
I hope this ended up in the new members section, I'm posting off of tapatalk on my phone. I do most of my research from the phone and that's how I discovered this forum.
One last question, and it's perhaps a newb one, if I take a picture of a part the Chilton does not identify, can anyone identify and where do I ask that question?
