Hello from Bayfield, WI

A little premature, since I am waiting for the papers to clear this morning, but I am soon to be a first time owner of a 4Runner. It is a 2004 SR5, with a couple of factory upgrades, a 4.7 liter V8 and 131,000 miles. I'll post pics later.

My biggest unknown is whether the timing belt was replaced at 90k. Judging from appearances the previous owner took really good care of the vehicle, but I don't want to assume anything. The Toyota dealership couldn't verify if it had been or not, so I will probably get it done for peace of mind.

This vehicle is replacing an 87 Jeep Cherokee that has 297k, a 3.5" RE lift kit AND the original clutch. I love this XJ, but the windshield leaks, the front floor boards are shot and rust is holding the paint together. I have come to the realization that I need to throw the towel in on this one.

From reading this forum, I have come to realize the 4Runner is a very capable off road vehicle. When it comes time to replace the shocks/struts I plan to upgrade with a lift kit. I look forward to many years with this truck.

Welcome to the forum. If the TBelt was replaced using Toyota parts, the
package comes with a sticker to denote miles, and date. OTher than looking for the sticker underhood, you could run a CarFax, and see if the history shows the repair.

Thank you. The Toyota dealership looked over the engine for signs, but no luck. The second owner had it for the majority of miles but had work done at a private shop, so the carfax shows nothing but yearly license renewal.

Thank you. Nice to know a fellow Northlander is on this forum. I never thought of contacting the PO., but it makes sense. It would be worth the peice of mind and easy on wallet. I wonder if the dealership would divulge that info?
