Hello from CT

Hello everyone. My name is Brad. I (unfortunately) live in CT. My wife and I have an '01 silver SR5 4x4. We picked it up about 3 years ago. The wife wanted to get rid of the Audi (POS), and we came across the 4Runner sitting on a dealer lot kind of by accident. She had always wanted a 4Runner, but couldn't justify it with how over-priced they were. So, in the summer of '08, we got the '01 with 50k miles for 10k. I feel it was a good deal. It's been a great truck with the exception of two things; The power antenna stopped working and it keeps warping front brake rotors. I think I'm just going to have to buy the Toyota rotors.
Anyway, I can't really touch the 4Runner right now 'cause it's the wife's vehicle. My ride is an '03 Xterra, 3" lift, 31" BFG MTs, and 8k winch. If I were to do it again, I would have just bought another 4Runner, but I'm happy enough with the X. Before I decided to do the family thing, I had a '90 YJ that I bought bone stock and then added a built Ford V8, 5" lift, winch, locked Ford 8.8 rear end, armor, 34" LTBs, and countless other alterations.
I figured I'd join this site to learn a little more about the Yota, because in a few years when my wife gets her FJ, I'll probably take the Toy as my new project.

Sup dude, Ridgefield here, i saw a lifted X on the Merrit a few days ago, Im in waterbury once or twice a month so you may see me, but i am always d!cking around danbury and stuff if you are ever down this way. There was a member in Wolcott, but he sold his, but he's prolly gonna come to the CT meetups anyway.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I'd love to get out and do some wheeling. Like I said, the 4runner if off limits right now, but I'd be happy to bash the X around as soon as I build a skid plate for the oil pan. I used to do quite a bit of wheeling with CTJeep in Mass and on some private land in CT, but haven't been out in way too long. I'm really getting the itch again. Haha

look up the tacoma whip mod- thatll solve your antenna problem- as for the brakes- check out the tundra 119 and 231mm upgrades. If your continually having to replace brake components this may be the answer- plus added braking power is never a bad thing. both mods arent really expensive or hard to do. Welcome to the site, if the runner is eventually going to be your rig you came to the right place.

Welcome! Good to see some more people from around my area joining up, im right over the line in MA. Next to Thompson CT.

For your brakes just type in Tundra brake on the search and you will find TONS of info.

Also, if you dont mind always having your antenna up. I just grabbed mine with a pair of vice grips and pulled it right up all the way. Then took a pair of wire strippers and crimped each part where they slide into each other. Great antenna signal now!

Thanks guys. The antenna is in the up position so it just doesn't go down. Not that big a deal, but the motor runs for a while when starting and stopping the engine. Just kind of annoying. I did take a look at the Tundra brake mod and it seems as though it will only work with 16" wheels. I've got 15" wheels. For the time being, I think I'll just buy some rotors with a lifetime warranty and change them every 6 months, as it only takes about 30 minutes to do.

Once the wife gets her FJ in a few years, either the 4Runner or the X is going to be built into a wheeler starting with a SAS. It really just boils down to which one is in better shape as a DD when the time arrives. The other will go under the knife.
