Hello; Gas door ops; owner's manual

First off, I'm new...so hello to you all. I've already benefited greatly from the archives and the help of one poster who came through for me off-site. Thanks to everyone for their time and contributions that make such a great forum as a resource for everyone!

And now to start on my list of problems. I just bought my first 4runner (1985, 4wd, 4cyl, at). The gas door lock cylinder is broken. I noticed the little tab on the locking mechanism is actually hooked on a plunger. Does this mean there is a gas door release lever somewhere that triggers the plunger via cable?

I have a service manual, but no owner's manual. I couldn't find anything in the service manual about the door at all. Is there somewhere I can download an owner's manual?

No there's no cable or anything like that, there should just be a key hole. U can get a new lock cylinder at a toyota dealership.:biggrin2:

Thanks for the response. The quiet was beginning to make me think I'd offended the group somehow - other than asking a stupid question. lol

I wonder if anyone has ever thought about installing a fuel door release mechanism from another model? My Tercel has one and the plunger looks really similar. Might be just a matter of figuring out the routing of the cable. But then, that's an awful lot of work to avoid sticking your key in the lock at fillup time.

I took my broken lock cylinder in to a locksmith and he was able to get it working again, so I should be OK now.

Any suggestions on where to get an owner's manual?
