Hello!

Welcome Onboard Jayded!

Although I bought my 4Runner with 4WD, I haven't gotten the chance to use it since...no towing needed...no more snow after March....and It run fine...

by the way...You Rig looks great...

I know where Toms River is. I have never really been there. That is about 45 minutes south of where I am. I have also been to Atlantic City a few times.

I dig your 4runner, It was actually the original Style that got me looking into 4runners. Might I suggest Trading in your Rear Window Sticker for a "www.T4R.org" decal. Hee Hee.

Actually, I plan on getting a T4R.org sticker in the near future! I don't know if I'd want to remove the sticker that's there, though...mainly because I'm just lazy. :p

Black and gold would look good...but I'm leaning more towards white or silver for better contrast.
 
Hey man, another late welcome aboard!

If your really stuck on the off-road thing throw a locker in there an you would be surprised how much you can do! Also if you wan a really cheap lift Ive got my 4wd springs in my garage. I'll give them to you for $20. You would have to pay shipping, but hey you'd still get a lift for cheap. Just throwing that out there. You really have a good year!! Personally I think the best year EVER ;)

I guess I'll look into that locker you mentioned...it would be nice if I could improve off-road performance. About the springs, I'm not currently looking to mod my truck...but I'll keep you in mind when I do. ;):

My uncle lives in Savannah, by the way...you wouldn't happen to know a Richard Rose, would you?
 
Good to see another 2WD 4Runner out there! It seems like the only ones that exist on this forum are 4WD... granted if I had gotten to choose, mine would have been 4x4 as well.

My excuse... the truck wasn't originally bought for me, but for my mom. Living in Memphis, my dad couldn't justify the 4WD for what we did with the vehicle. It took us on camping trips and towed the pop-up camper, which is all he wanted.

Several years later when I inherited the 4Runner from my mom, I soon realized that 4WD wouldn't be such a bad idea to play around with. Oh well, I am still very happy with my 4Runner. l plan to drive it til it won't run anymore. It is a 1997 and only has 62K miles on it! Not even worn in yet...

How much was that brush guard? I like the looks of it. Good looking 4Runner you got there, too.
 
I know what you mean. I think there's a grand total of three of us 2WD-ers on this site. :) If it's any consolation, my friend (a supposed off-road expert) told me to feel free and go off-roading...but to not "go too crazy". I think we can handle the smoother, more even, terrain out there. :p

We're in the same boat, as far as the odometer's concerned: I only have 42K on mine. :) ...but as soon as I start my cross-country trips....

Oh, and the brush guard was around $300...discounted because it was the dealer's floor model. A black brush guard would look pretty nice on a white 4Runner. ;):
 
I've actually been surprised what my 2WD will do. I don't do much serious off-roading, like I said earlier... but I have been mudding a few times.

People who I was with thought I was an idiot for doing it with 2WD, but I didn't even get stuck! The key was to keep it moving. I had a lot of fun doing donuts and throwing mud, if the pics I took were digital I would post them.

A word to the wise: mud is damn near IMPOSSIBLE to clean completely. I had chunks underneath I would find several weeks later... not the best thing for the undercarriage. Fun nonetheless.
 
Well, looks like im not the only newbie with a 2WD. It is a sad thing, and the only regret I have about my 4Runner. Ours are just about identical, except mine is a "dune" color. '98 Runner SR5 V6 2WD. I believe you have the exact brush guard that I want also. hah. I'm jealous. But i'm a little low on funds so it'll have to wait. BTW, nice pics! Gotta love the 'Runner. Hey, now there is a total of 4 2WD'ers. Including me that is. :p Personally, the 3rd Gen. is my fav! :D

Yeah I think the '96-'98 model years were the last rugged looking 4Runners made, as well as the best looking (I am only slightly biased). I enjoy having my chrome bumpers and accents. The 2nd gen's had even more chrome on them (around the windshield and the entire side view mirrors).

You going to post some pics of yours?
 
I will get some pictures soon enough. At the moment I dont have any on the computer, one of the many things on my agenda. :o

It's too bad that you and the other 2WDs are on the other side of the country, or else we could have a meet of our own. :) Honestly, it just wouldn't feel right to join one of the 4WD meets.... :(

I also prefer the pre-4th-gen look...but don't get me wrong, I like the 4th gens too.... :nervous:

Yeah you are kind of far away for us eastern US people to meet up with.

Well I made the same 2wd mistake as you. Came really close to just trading my 03 runner in. In the end I decided to just by a trail rig with 4wd to save me some money.
