I am pulling the engine in my 2004 4wd V6 (blown head gasket) and cannot get the engine to separate from the transmission. I have taken all 9 bolts out, and even took out the 6 bolts holding the flywheel to the torque converter through the starter hole.
I have used a screwdriver and prybar to create a 1/2 inch gap all the way around between the bellhousing and the engine but it will go no further. It is definitely not a missed bolt, or a frozen guide pin (they are completely out of their holes now).
I can pry more, but it snaps back in place like there is something in the transmission holding it in place. I have been reasonable careful at this point and do not think I have damaged anything.
