HELP! 3RD member GONE

Well I purchase a 94 4runner 5-spd v6 4x4 to drive to work + build up

motor was good even at 341,000.

just needed to replace DS.. so i thought.

took her in to replace the drive shaft and noticed a drip coming from the pinion seal (expected that)

but they were nice enough to check all my seals and told me whoever i bought it from RAN THE REAREND DRY !

that the rack n pinion were fried... (thats the 3rdmember correct?)

that the metal was all hot and ready to go.. he doesnt want me to go into a money pit so he suggested just to turn and burn it...

my friend (yota enthusiast) told me to just look for a new 3rd member or have it rebuilt.

I really dont wanna drop ALOT of dough into this .. any help on pricing? or what should I be looking for to replace this?

I would for sure find the whole third member assembly.
When mine went out I just bought a set of gears at first. I tried to rebuild the assy myself and got it close but ended up having someone else rebuild it and apparently when it ran dry it messed up more than the ring and pinion. So ended up finding a whole parts truck and just swapped the assy out and it's worked great.

I looked for just the assy and they ran from $200 - $400 used, and new was like $1500 and can only get a new one from Toyota as far as I was told.
