HELP! a newb

bump...

ouch man, can anyone help him out? Did you get the prob resolved? I have seen and posted those kind of panicked posts before and sat waiting for a response to fix the trouble.

Not much luck yet

I did whats shown here and had no trouble removing the tone ring. It was tight but pressed off relatively easily. The next part off was the snap ring. Simple enough.

DON'T proceed to step three here yet! This is where I bent the flange of the bearing assembly. The bearing spacer will not press off. I finally talked with a former import shop owner yesterday and his recommendation was to cut the spacer as well. I wish I'd have known a couple days sooner.:(

So now I'm trying to find a bearing assy I guess it'd be called. The flange is bent just enough it would cause issues.

Thanks for any help.

Update!

OK, I have looked into the proceedure for both the 3rd gen and fourth for this job. It seems common to cut both the retainers and the tone ring off, and then press the bearing. One guy even said he just cuts them all off and uses all new parts including the bearing case.
Also max wheel bearing deflection is .027", if it's close or more you may need to look these procedures over before starting.
If any of you are interested in making a note in your manuals, the bearing case in PN: 42421-35030, $70.

Not back together yet but at least I know where this is heading now.

I also posted in Maint. I had wheel seal issues and was in the process of replacing them and the wheel bearings. I couldn't get the bearing & retainer to press off and started to bend the bearing assy. Any Ideas??? How 'bout a parts source?

I don't know about how to do the work, cause I got the Stealership to do it. One thing I would recommend though, is after doing the seals, do the diff breather mod too! The stock diff breather get clogged and then the diff exerts pressure which blows the seals. So even after replacing the seals, it will happen again until you fix the breather. The stealership changed mine out, but I'm gonna do the Breather mod to stop it from clogging again.
