Help dome light circuit

Seriously!? 4 threads for a dome light circuit?
It has 3 wires. I'm sure ones positive, ones negative, and the last is probably the trigger for the door.
If you're testing the wires without termination (dome light), you may not get any readings with a meter. Some Toyota circuits use a negative trigger. Meaning power is constant and the circuit is completed with a ground.
If you don't understand what I'm talking about, it's time to get a professional involved over there. A dome light circuit should not necessitate 4 threads.

I install a roof dvd , the dvd has a + input for turning on the dvd built in light that replaces the dome. none of the cables will turn on the light when the door is open. as you said it looks that the trigger is negative. so how can i turn on that light without using a relay?

one positive, one negative and the trigger, the trigger is inverted (when you close the door the negative will become active . when i try to connect the dvd power to these wire. the front map light turn on. that's why i wanted to understand the circuit.

The dome lights are almost certainly negative trigger, but be careful about trying to use that negative trigger as a ground because it's not a true chassis ground, it is a generated ground signal from one of the interior ECUs (body ecu I think???); this is why it measures out strange and looks like an inverted signal. If you start connecting other stuff to it there's no telling what kind of electrical feedback it will cause (and possibly burn something out).
Like ducamonsta said...just use a relay to re-invert the negative trigger signal from the dome light if you really want to make the light turn on and you only have a + trigger in the DVD unit.
The alternative is to open up the DVD player and run the two wires directly from the bulb to the dome light circuit, this will most likely work just fine, but remember to completely isolate the light bulb from the DVD player so you don't burn up anything

Hmmm, now that I look at it closer? I just looked on saw on page 4 rear door courtesy lights and ASSumed that was it. I just checked mine and I only have one. Maybe the limited's have two. I've only had mine for 2 months so I'm still figuring things out.

Hi I have installed a DVD Player and followed the instructions to a T and I am having the same problem with the Dome light on the DVD player not working.
I know the lights work because if I hook it up to the hot it stays on, but when I hook it up the way that it should, nothing happens at all. I have just left it that way for now until I can find a solution. :ybrick::ybrick:
I noticed somebody mentioned a relay. Has this been done and what was used? I have looked on Amazon and I am not sure what to use.
Any help would be appreciated.
