Help! Engine, trans, or rear end problem

1998 4runner. 3.4l. 4wd. 312k miles. No codes. All fluids check fine. Truck runs great 99% of the time except for this.
So, this is a new thing that I just noticed popped up as a "problem" the last couple of days. Not so much as a problem as it is a nuisance. I pull a small single axle tilt bed trailer a lot. One big enough for a 54" bad boy ztr. I noticed the first time when accelerating hard from a full stop that in the higher rpm range, up past 5000rpm the truck would momentarily have a loss of forward momentum, the engine rpms would do something crazy. Something that reminded me of a turbo'd drag car when they'll spool up and start doing that "two step" thing that they do. That, as well as the exhaust backfire to go with. That's with my foot in the gas pretty heavy. If I back out of it and accelerate "normally" (normal for me which is pretty heavy compared to everyone else) everything clears up and I can accelerate on to acceptable cruising speed whatever that may be. Yesterday I was trying to figure this out and I was just driving along and I just randomly decided to bump it into neutral and put some accelerator into it and it done the same thing. So that under a load while accelerating and coasting that it's done this. I live in eastern nc so it flat land 100% of the time. I have no codes. I don't have techstream but I have other dealer leaver bi-directional odb tools at my disposal. One other thing, when I this started to happen or at least when I noticed I was down low enough on fuel my light had just come on. I'm wondering if maybe some trash from the very bottom of the tank partially stopped up the fuel sock on the pump. I'll be looking at fuel trim numbers today as I filled up last night before coming home. I'm hoping maybe the system pressure died down over night and if there was by chance some trash on the pump filter maybe by this time it's made its way off and away from the pump. Had it happen before on a Tacoma and another 3rd gen. Any insight would be greatly appreciated

Update
At idle stft fluctuating between -3 and +3 consistently.
LTFT is at -17.21.
Total FT @ 0.848.
Everything else at a quick glance seems to be with spec per the fsm.

How are the long term trims while driving/cruising around? -17% hints at a pretty big problem.

The ECU likes to stay closed loop, so the issue you are seeing might only happen when you go open loop.

Im sitting here with it now just kinda piddling on it. I crack the banjo bold at the fuel rail crossover when I got to my shop awhile ago. I got more air than I did fuel which has never happened before. I mean a substantial amount of air. Which makes me lean towards ?vaporlock? I got the battery out and the terminals together to reset everything currently. Will have it back together shortly and will update.
