I'm leaving for college in 10 days and NEED to figure this out before I leave. The Transfer case output bearing is the bearing that sits in the T-case where the rear driveshaft goes into. I know for a fact that it needs replaced but I don't know exactly how to do it. What i DO know is that I'll have to use a puller to get it out. But what I don't know is if it is pressed in or not... and I'm not sure if you have to take the back of the transfer case off. Let me know!!

youll have to crack the case open and put a new one in.
if this is not a option for you just get a used tcase and install it and when you get time rebuild your old tcase with better gears and internals for off roading.

I'm not in the mood to get a new t-case unless it'd be easier than putting in a bearing. Can you explain more tho... is the bearing pressed in? How hard do you think the process will be?

its time consuming and labor intensive, you can buy a used t case for like 50$ and be good for a couple years. or spend 5 hours rebuilding your t case and possibly finding more wrong with it then you were ready for.
if you want to keep using the truck and eventually have a bad ass t case then you should buy a used one and rebuild the one you have.

if you dont go this route youll need a full rebuild kit because its not just the bearing youll be pulling out and at that point you SHOULD just rebuild the hole thing!

So, I still don't know... is it pressed in??? And HOW DO I DO IT. If I remove the back of the t-case I'll just need a seal for that, bushing and seal for the bearing, and the bearing itself?

And if I do just replace the T-case, how hard is that? Please elaborate more clearly. I understand it is good to rebuild it and do all that good stuff, but I have 10 days to do this. I just want to know how to do it, and how hard it is.

you have to open up the entire transfer case its hard and you will want to rebuild the hole thing if you do this.
like a said on a time restraint just buy used off craigslist.

http://www.trail-gear.com/ has videos on how to rebuild the transfer case use them.

I don't exactly have the funds right now to rebuild it, but I will definitely consider it. But from what I've read, people have said you only have to take the back plate off of the t-case to get to the bearing.

And for the fourth time asking, is the bearing pressed in?

Youre going to have to dig the last two slabs off your T case. The bearing is pressed in but you can do it with a hammer and and the correct bearing seat punch (or a big socket.)

Ok, thank you. I may just do it when I come back for winter break this year now so I can have more time to do it. I just want to know what i'm getting into. So drain it, take the plate off, use a puller to get the bearing out, clean it all out, hammer in bearing with a block of wood or big socket, then put the new seal in, refil, presto? I'm sure it's probably allot more than that but it's a basic idea.

I agree with bad vision. Find a used t-case and swap it in. I recently did this on my 95, found a used one on CL for $50 and installed it in a couple of hours. Was not very difficult, and no special tools needed

Yes it's pressed in

Ok so putting in a whole "new" t-case may be a better option. How would I go about this? take off the crossmember, undo a few wires (backup light etc.),unbolt driveshafts, unbolt t-case from tranny, and then work backwards?
Rolling Blackout, does that sund familiar?

Well it's not the tail shaft bearing! Ended up being the bearing in the rear axle behind the U-Joint. There's 2 bearings, one that goes in one side, and one on the other. I had to special order it from toyota so it won't be here till monday :(
