Help Identifying Random wiring from PO

Greetings All,

I got a little carried away yesterday with a small minor project, and it ultimately turned into an interior dis-assembly and major cleaning project. Anyways, I took the front apart, took the dash out, and found some major hack and splice jobs back there. Im the 3rd owner, 2nd owner was my college roomate and he's not sure what any of it is. I'm sure this is a long shot because there could be a zillion different things wired in here that are no longer functional or hidden or removed etc.

I'll try to choose the best pics to give y'all an idea of what i'm looking at, but again, i understand it's going to probably be hard for any electrical guys to know off hand just by looking at my pictures. it's worth a shot though!

FWIW everything on the truck works great, there are no electrical gremlins, (at least not that I know of yet in 2 years of ownership), I'm just curious what I've got here already and might be able to make use out of. I might rip it all out eventually, but who knows.

Also, I've been staring at my Electrical Wiring Diagram I have for my truck and it looks like rocket science...way over my head. I'm a biology guy.

#1 & #2 This one is spliced into something in the passenger footwell, leads over the hump behind the radio, and ends up nowhere underneath the carpet on the drivers side, not connected to anything. Initially I thought it was an antenna wire but why splice it where it was?




I decided a video would be easier for the major bulk of the wires, drivers side foot well. I do NOT have a rear locker, but this switch has been mounted where the OEM RR DIFF LOCK switch would go. It doesn't look like any factory/dealer/port installed security/alarm buttons I've seen, and to be quite honest, I'm not 100% sure if it's a functional two way switch, or a simple light. It presses like a button, but that could be it being broken, or it being a light that has never lit up. I've also tested different ways to set off any alarm I may have, and I have never been able to do so, so i'm not sure if I have a security system or not. Any ideas?

Is it a stock stereo? The two most common wiring hack jobs I've seen are brake pedal switch for an in dash GPS, and tie in to the door unlock switch for a remote keyless entry. Stereo installers are the worse about just splicing in to stuff. The only way to tell is get the color code of the wire in the original harness and look it up in the service manual.
 
Get a simple 12 volt test light and check to see if there is any power on the switch leads and the orange wire; if not just eliminate them. Probably some accessory the original owner added and they eliminated before your roommate got the truck.

No stock stereo, good question. Aftermarket Pioneer?Alpine? POS Single-Din H/U that just sucks and blows and needs to be replaced. That combined with Shitty door speakers puts my stereo quality on par with a Sony Walkman circa 1985. No GPS at all. I'm scared I'll go to replace it and open a can of worms somehow.

What kind of gadgets would need such a bulky wiring job and black box that's wrapped up with tape? I could tear the tape out....but I kinda dont want to touch anything just yet because everything seems to work.
 
I had a stupid wire like that, same color and all. it went to a multi disk CD changer that was installed in the back, there was also a remote wired under my shifter panel where i found a perfectly preserved Dorrito cool ranch chip.
 
Oh ok. I know with a stock stereo, you can by that adapter to hook up an amp that you splice into your speaker wires if your stock stereo doesn't have rca hookups. Usually it's behind the stereo but I've seen them put there too. But it doesn't require power so it wouldn't be hooked to the fuse box. So that must not be that. Only other thing I can think of is an aftermarket alarm was hooked up at one point.
 
An aftermarket alarm is a big bulky mess if not installed cleanly. And if they disconnected it most likely it's just left up under the dash by the kick panel
 
That's aftermarket alarm wiring in the video. Strip it all out. The alarm is not connected so it is just a big ball of crap and useless. The second pic has RCA cables and remote turn on running against the tranny hump running back for an amplifier. Not sure of the orange wire.

Thanks for the direct comments. The RCA cables and Amp remote are mine and accounted for :)

I'm thinking it's old aftermarket alarm crap or Keith was on to something with the possible RCA cables. I'm going to study (read: attempt to decipher) the Electrical wiring diagram to see if I can start to understand how things should look.

Any possible negatives to leaving it the way it is and not dealing with the shit storm that would be pulling it all?

The extent of my car wiring adventures is a boost gauge on my euro vehicles. How do you "un-splice" wires the best way?

Anybody else having trouble with the video?

-looks like a remote starter was removed
-looks like there was a amp somewhere in the car before. those rca wires probably run to the back of the radio to a line output converter. then to the rear cargo area to a sub amp.

- orange wire i would need to know what it is connected to. and where it is terminated.

I don't think leaving it in will hurt as long as it's not wired into power somewhere. I had an aftermarket alarm on my wrx that the previous owner put in and then disconnected. Heap of a mess under the dash. I used my key until I got tired of it and got another alarm installed. They removed all that for me and put the new one in.

Are any of the wires spliced with these? If so you can just take these off and nothing else is needed. These are what is used usually for the rca cable adapter for stock stereos. Or for tapping into wires without cutting anything.
