Help identifying smell !!

I had a similar issue with a Nissan Altima recently. Horrible burnt rubber smell. I thought it was the belt slipping, but it turned out the alternator pulley and the alternator themselves were both bad. Replaced it and the issue was resolved.

I would have never guessed that, that will be apart of the replacements I do. I want this truck to go far. So I'm ready to start fresh with some new parts.

He didn't actually drive and try to diagnose it, he just checked for exhaust leaks while changing the oil. He is a very competent specialist, been doing Yota's since 73!

Then you should have him diagnose it.

I could be wrong, but I imagine the only things that get hot enough to burn/melt rubber would be exhaust components...?

We don't know that it actually is burning rubber. It could be electrical wiring that is getting too hot, due to a short or excessive load. Or any number of other things.

Haha God forbid I see if anyone else maybe had the same issue??

My point was and is; There are so many things it could be, that throwing out guesses is likely to just be a waste of your time.

How about this for an unusual guess that I've seen before; Maybe you drove over a freshly chip-coated road, and oil was thrown up under your truck, and now when it gets hot it smells.

Or another guess; I once had a car come in that someone had poured tar into the fresh air intake, and it gave off a pungent smell periodically.
