Help I’m getting ready to start replacing my rotors/pads.

Help I’m getting ready to start replacing my rotors/pads. Have read a lot, but get from EZ 20min of rotor/pad to them telling me to send it to the dealer. Dealer is not a choice $$$$ too much. I would really to like do it myself. I believe I have all the tools and equipment to the job. ANY tips or tricks out there to HELP ME. ALSO, I would like to install my New FOX SHOX suspension lift kits (front/rear) myself but got a price from a Performance 4x4 shop for $300. Is that a good price??? Really don't wont to pay someone else something I can do. :thanks:

Really don't wont to pay someone else something I can do. The Lift is DIY but a fair amount of work. If the $300 includes an alignment that's a fair price IMHO. :thanks:

Thks, I see you have Aux trans cooler. where did you get it the kit, and VSC off mod? Would really like to find that mod.:banana:

You can probably do it yourself.But keep this in mind,have the brakes been replaced before,and if so,did the wheel bearings get repacked? Since you are driving a 03,I would say they should be inspected and at least repacked.It's not too bad a job if you are mechanically inclined.Depending on the miles,I would think about replacing the bearings since you will have the brakes and rotors off anyway.

Hey, Thanks guys for getting back with some good info. Chaz great sites, I think I can do the replacement now. I'm pertty machanically inclined, I work on my 87 T4R and fix just about everything myself, but it's old school and I understand old school. anyways thanks again for good info.eace:

Very simple job. I did mine in about 30 minutes on the front axle. Most everything I read talks about removing the calipers and hanging the calipers out of the way......... However, I did not remove my calipers. I took the pins out of the tops and removed the clips from the pads, then simply lifted the pads up and out. Then, I compressed the pistons using channel locks and the back of the old pads and dropped in the new pads. Replaced the clips and pins...put the wheels back on and drove away.

Now, my rotors were at the lower end of "acceptable" in terms of thickness, but that doesn't scare me. I'll run rotors 150,000 miles before replacing.

I'm gonna replace mine soon. I've never done it on a T4R, but it looks super easy. I have a Haynes manual to guide me if I need help.

What dealer were you looking at to do your brakes? What shop were you looking at to do your lift? Checkered Flag says I need to replace my pads, and turn my rotors. Also want/need to install a Cornfed spacer kit and have gotten WIDE ranging quotes from shops here.

I'm going to do the breaks/suspension myself. I got a wide range of quotes also. I did talk with Performance Offroad at the beach and they would put my front suspension on for $150 and backs for $250 which I guess are a good price? My NEW performance rotors/pads and coilover springs suspension lift will be here Thur. and all should be in by the weekend to make a test run on my new 3/2 with 2' spacers. I really like my stock suspension on the road but just on the road. Really look forward ta WHEELING deeper and higher than before. Also putting new sway kit, upper arm, trailing arm. Got any thoughts on bumpers? I like the Shrock w/winch along with a few lights. I heard that the ABR bullbar bumper does not fit up with the 4th Gen T4R? Good luck :redbrick:

I did look into the wheel bearings getting replaced but after I spoke with the dealer and a couple of other shops, they said you're right that they should be checked, but because the way they are installed into the hubs; checking free, replacing $300+. They also said that the bearing on the 4th Gen's toyo should last a very long time, but check when you can.:happens: Thanks for the reply.
