So I performed a couple of searches and now know where everybody has physically installed their brake controllers, my question is on wiring.
I pulled the OEM brake wire harness out of the glove compartment (knew that would come in handy one day) and cracked open the packaging on the brake controller. The OEM harness has 5 wires, the brake controller has 4. Doh!
I've mapped out the following wires so far (left hand column is Toyota wiring harness label, right hand column is the label on the brake controller wire):
Toyota OEM Harness wire description --> Brake controller wire description
Black, Fused Trailer Brake Controller Battery Feed --> Black, positive terminal on battery
White/Black, Trailer Ground --> White, ground/negative terminal on battery
Green/Yellow, Vehicle stop lamp switch to brake controller (input) --> Red, cold side of stop lamp switch
Yellow, Trailer electric brake feed from brake controller (output) --> Blue, trailer electric brakes
That leaves the 5th wire on the OEM harness which Toyota labels:
Green, Headlamp switch to vehicle tail lamps
So is the green wire on the Toyota harness not needed in this application?
Pertinent Information:
2007 4Runner SR5 V8
Brake Controller: Hopkins Agility proportional brake controller (yes, I know this isn't one of the controllers that is recommended on the forum, but it's available locally and will have to do until I can upgrade).
Thanks in advance for your help.
