Help.. Major reduction in 2015 4Runner Limited remote keyless entry distance

All,

Really enjoying my 2015 4x4 Magnetic gray limited but a few days ago the distance that I can unlock and start my 4Runner went from maybe 80ft to about 10 feet. I have tried both key fobs so I doubt it is a bad battery.

I have searched the forum and I have not seen anyone else with this issue.

I am thinking maybe there is an antennae that has become disconnected somewhere or just a general defect that I will need to take it into the dealer to fix.

Any ideas?

Strange. Perhaps your battery is weak in your key fob.

On another note, why are you using the key fob? On the limited, you can unlock the 4Runner by pulling on the drivers handle, or even by the unlock button at the tailgate without the need for you to press anything on the fob.
 
I doubt it's the battery since both key fobs have been affected and it's brand new. I have remote start so I like to start it from my kitchen at least.... and it's supposed to work dang it !
 
ahh, ok, range is important with the remote start, my bad. I don't have that option. Maybe some sort of interference then.

oh and congrats on your '15 Limited, I LOVE mine. I have the redwood leather interior with a black exterior.. I love the smell :)

I have remote start in my 2013 Limited, and while the range is not great, it has been able to do 80 to 120 feet since new. I don't recall any recent posts on this type of severe reduction in range. I'd take it to the dealer to sort out.
 
Interesting. I have a very similar issue at a certain grocery store, and no where else. Interference is what I think. There is a relatively new cell tower in the lot too. So, I can go there, and my range is seriously limited. Go to work... and hit 50 feet easy. I have tested it too.

That said... there are several antennas all around the vehicle. The member "Blackworks Inc" may have a complete list and may have other opinions as well.
 
I noticed this as well about two days ago. I have an '11. I thought maybe cold weather affected it. Never noticed it before in the same spot and haven't since that afternoon.

The chin and temple tricks do seem to work. I'm 45 and I remember that trick from high school!

I don't think it's interference since it seems to behave the same in my work parking lot and at home. Previously I was getting great distance from the key fob. The dealer said it could be caused from weather but I don't recall this happening with other vehicles and that seems doubtful.

I will wait until it warms up a bit and see if that makes any difference before taking it to the dealer.
 
Our weather was subzero when I was having issues. The last couple of days we've been in the 20s and the issue is gone. Could be the cold or it could be coincidence.
 
I live in colorado and the weather is COLD. The cold tempurature has never affected my remote start. When I first had it installed the range was garbage. The key fob battery was maybe 10 months old. I replaced the battery and it's been working at over 100 feet everyday since. I would replace the battery.

Oh and that is 100 feet with direct line of sight! :)

Colorado Springs is not cold and certainly not COLD. Your lowest low of the year is probably our high temp of all last week :smow:
 
My battery just went in my main fob and the drop in range is exactly what happened as it was going. It dropped quick too, but if both fobs are doing it i would go to dealer.
 
lol the biggest problem I have, I forget to clip the carbineer to the belt loop. I have a app to remote start/lock/unlock so that's never gonna be an issue unless I don't have cell service :)
 
Any fixes? Mine just started doing this. It seriously has a range of about 5 feet now. I even replaced the battery yesterday and it didn't help at all.
