Help! Massive loss of power (video)

I'm closing on a house ,deploying with the military all within the next 60 days. Id like to leave my wife and son a vehicle I know will get them where they need to go. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.



2000 Toyota 4runner aprox 90k miles. The issue has been coming and going for 6 months now each time coming back worse . All with no check engin light. Suddenly it starts to buck and cut out all power while popping and backfiring through the intake. I have to floor it and keep the petal down for it to come back to life. ( the entire video is taken with the petal to the floor) I have cleaned the throttle body and replaced the mass air with a new Toyota part. I really don't want to throw any more parts at this it knowing. Hardest part is I can't replicate the issue on demand so bringing it to a shop is useless. it's random and sometimes leaves me stranded. I've had it

please note in the video I have the car at wide open throttle with no modulation of the pedal. zero check engine lights.

Could be a vacuum leak. Did you remove the throttle body when you cleaned it? Or check the tps. I had an issue like that on an 85 bmw I had and it turned out to be a bad tps along with a vacuum leak.

No just open the throttle and cleaned it up also ran some seafoam injecting it at the tb. That almost completely got rid of it for 3 months straight. Not sure if maybe it could be the throttle position sensor being that's the area I messed with and I've read similar threads with that being it. I just hate throwing parts at a problem.
 
usually TBPS will throw a code, at least mine did, did you check for pending codes? sometimes those don't show up when you scan it.

Wires and plugs are relatively new this is not like when you have a fouling plug or bad coil and have a rough running car (ie running on 5 or 4 cyl) . This just flat out falls on it's face like all six just stop firing

Fuel filter could possibly be the original is quite rusty at the joints and was holding off changing until warm weather incase I have to replace more than just the filter.
 
I know you said you replaced MAF, but this is exactly what happened when I left my MAF unplugged, just hanging. Had me confused. I had removed the intake to change spark plugs and I forgot to plug the MAF back into the tube.

Thanks good info I'm going to trace the maf wires back and see if there is a chaffed wire . Although I have unplugged it to see if I could get a change and it just killed the idle instantly.
 
A toyota echo I had last year had a similar issue and I finally realized it happened after driving through rain/snow. One of the rubber rings sealing the spark plug tube had failed and water would creep in there and cause issues. Maybe just something else to check
 
Update .. Left for work this morning and the problem started right away. The check engine light finally come on throwing a p0172 and I limped it to autozone. Purchased a tps and installed it. Problem was still there. I then limped it down the road to a shop and left it. Just got a phone call that it was the front o2 sensor. They say that they replaced it and have not been able to replicate the problem. Hope this is it
