Help me choose rims/tires!

I have a 2006 4runner SR5, and i want some rims and tires.

Unfortunately, I have to get the tires later on, so first off with no lift installed whats the best size tire & rim size combo for offroading. I was thinking 16" -17" on 33" tires. I don't even know if that will fit...if not, what would be a good setup?

16" rims would be nice so i can get tires later on?

What do you all think?

This topic has been covered at length on many threads. I'd suggest you search the wheel/tire & off-roading sub forums for what you are looking for.

When you start a build, the first question should be What size tires do you intend to run? The answer should be based on the type of wheeling you plan on doing, and how much you will drive the truck on a daily basis. Once you have established a size, you can then make the necessary mods to accommodate your tire choice. Options to consider include, suspension lift, body lift, wheel size, width and offset, and tire type (All Terrain or Mud Terrain).

In short, 265/75/16 (265/70/17) is as big as you can go without a lift. You may encounter some minor rubbing on plastic depending on the brand and model tire, which can be easily fixed.

Depending on how your truck was built at the factory, you may need to run at least a 17" wheel. This is to allow for clearance of the calipers. If your truck has 17's now, it probably needs 17's. If you have 16's then you will benefit from a large selection of tire sizes and save a little $ when buying wheels or tires.

255/75/17

I have been looking all over this and other 4Runner forums with no luck. Can 255/75/17s fit on a 4th generation with no lift. It is my wife's DD - no real offroading. I have BFG A/Ts on my truck and like them so far. Hard to beat the $$ on the 255s ($94/each). I might be able to justify a minimal leveling lift if I'll save so much on the tires.

I've seen a couple of 2/1 lifts with these tires, I'm just wondering if any damaging rubbing would take place.

Search the username spaceman for pics and stories of 275/70/17 with no lift. The overall diameter is right with the 255/75/17 tire.
