Help me choose some rear shocks

I'm looking to buy some rear shocks within the next day or so. I've kinda got an idea of what I want to go with but just want to hear everyone else's opinion. I run the 890s in the rear and the shocks I have now are way to short and they've gone to crap at that. I have stock rear bumper and full size spare underneath. Other than that I don't carry too much extra weight. Sometimes my 2 12s with box and I keep a socket set in the back.

My plan has been to go with the LC Black Tokicos. I can get everything for around $100 or so. Now I know these are a bit too long so the idea is to run some extended sway bar links and just always keep it on. In theory this should work and it's the cheapest I've come across. Now unless you guys can talk me out of it this is what I'll be going with. I'm not looking to spend $200 on some Bilstein's unless you convince me otherwise. Also if anyone has any experience with some cheaper extended length shocks that work well I'd love to hear about those.

**Also, anyone have any front sway bar end links they'd sell me on the cheap? I snapped one of mine. Thanks

The problem you will run into is bottoming the LCs out on bumps and articulating, ripping shock mounts and blowing seals. If you properly limit your up travel you will be fine but its going to take some longer bumpstops and some drop brackets more than likely. Running the rear sway wont help/affect the problem.

I'm surprised to see you not going for the 5125s they are a nice shock that is reasonably priced for the performance. Youve got a killer truck, you want to properly dampen it. I would see if Toytec could work you a Memorial Day special on their setup. I have heard good stuff about the tokicos if you have the lift to run them without tearing shit up.

The reason I'm avoiding the 5125s is I'm trying to stay away from the eye-to-stud adapter that is required to use those. I was planning on extended the bumps with the LCs and running longer sway bar brackets. I will however reconsider my thoughts.

No kidding, the adaptors suck for sure. I thought i read somewhere they released some other options that didnt require the adaptor. If you are going to lower your bumps, no worries, go for it!
 
Do the adaptors suck that bad? I was going to tack mine into place once tightened.
There is no mention of them limiting travel, but I can see why if they do.
 
Go ahead and tack them, I went HAM on them on the initial install and they still loosened up. I tacked them and cannot believe how quiet it is now back there.

Do you know the extended and collapsed length of these shocks? Or maybe a comparison to the 5125s? Seem like a pretty good option. How's the on road ride in your opinion? Flex good? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just trying to find out everything I can.

If you are planning to get with the longer bumps stop with LC's coil and avoiding the eye to stud adapter then get the Bilstein 5100 shocks. Don't forget to get extended brake line if you don't have it yet...I got this LC OME 851 with Bilstein 5100 to be install this weekend. Getting rid of 891 due to sagging rear with OME weak shocks. I broke two sets in 4 years.

LC OEM, same ones that ship with the older S.S 1.2 lift kit.

I have had them for last several years and they haven't let me down. Sorry but I don't have a part #
 
I don't know the lengths extended and compressed, but they were set to go with my coil setup (OME 890). On road feel is great. Not too harsh, not too soft. Not too sure about flex yet. Haven't taken off road yet. There are a few other members who have these and like them. 1 guy did say his shock were defective.
 
Something to consider. I read recently about throwing 5125 from an 06+ tacoma. Look it up. Might be exactly what you are looking for
 
The Nitro N2.0 Rear Shocks are:
13.89" X 23.04"
So for comparison:
Stock range 11.75-12.99 x 19.76-20.23
Stock LC Tokicos 14.5" x 23.5"
Bilstein Tundra 5100 13.84" x 22.4"
Bilstein 4th Gen / FJ 5100 14.91" x23.5"
These all have proper stem / eye mounts. Obviously they all need some bump / limit modification;-)
Then valving of them comes into play too really add to he confusion!!!! Lol

Don't forget
Bilstein 5100 for 05+ Tacoma 14.02 x 22.94 - I am running these currently and they ride great.

I almost went with the 4th Gen 5100's but didn't want to lose the uptravel. The Tacoma 05+ 5100's have more total travel than any of the other 5100 options and have good enough extended length for most folks that aren't running aftermarket rear arms and such.

Also worth mentioning that any of these 5100's from the later Toyotas will require the bottom eye mount bushing to be swapped out for one with .75" ID. The Bilstein part# for this bushing is 98108G
 
Hey mcaz5 I have done some research and I have the RC N20 shocks. They ride well on and off road and have great flex. They measure 13.89" to 23.04" so almost 9.5" inches of travel and I got that from wheelers. The 5125's are 14.2" to 22.5" and thats from Dylan at Toytec. Hope this helps.
