Had a leak in the rear cat from one of the brackets breaking off so in my usual style I'm replacing everything. Went with the non-CA Magnaflow cats and the Walker Quietflow muffler. Would have liked to go with the Borla catback but didn't like the rear exit and didn't want to double the cost... Anyway, most of it looks straightforward but there always has to be one or two things that have to be a pain.
1. The joint from the rear cat to the muffler won't joint. There is some not-so-pretty weld that could easily be remedied but even if I clean that up I don't think the two will mate. The pipe diameter of the 3/8" or so extending out the back of the seems slightly larger than the expanded muffler pipe welded to the flange. I'd prefer not to cut that portion off if I don't have to... it's probably will help make a better seal.
2. The rear cat has the wrong o2 flange welded to it... it's needs the bung style rather than the diamond flange. I bought a flange that seems like a decent solution but wondered if the o2 sensor not being as deep into the pipe would make any difference. I'm guessing no but thought I would ask.
3. The joint between the muffler and tail pipe does not have a recess machined into the flange. Use the flange shaped gasket or the dry toothpaste filled ring??
I'm pretty sure I can get it all to work but wanted feedback from anyone who might have encountered these issues so I can do it once and do it right. Don't want to be cutting if it's not completely necessary.
