Help! Need to replace white/black wire after trac off mod

I been running the trac off switch for years with no issues after doing the mod where you splice into the white/black wire coming out of the brake booster. I just uninstalled the mod and unintentionally shorted the wire out (..I know). The casing is slightly melted and I'm going to have to replace it. I've traced it to the firewall but there are a lot of similar looking wires back there. Does anyone know where this wire runs/what it leads to??

Ok... I get what ur saying, but I am not sure what the problem is.

What did you short the wire out on? It looks like its just a ground wire, did you feed +12v into the thing?

Do you see any damage?

The casing is slightly melted from the wire heating up. The exposed copper inside looks brittle. My trac lights etc are on as if in had my switched flipped to on. So there's a missing connection.

If this is the ground wire, could I run a new line to the body?

I dont know if that is a fix, and I would probably refrain from doing anything like that until you better understand the issue.

Can you test the actual condition of the wire? Try and get access to both ends of that wire and test.

You can use a DMM to check both resistance and continuity. That would give you an answer if the wire needs to be replaced, or if you have a new problem to start to diagnose.

If there is a bad section of wire, can you just replace the bad section?

I'm trying to trace the wire but only have gotten as far as the firewall. There are a ton of similar looking wires behind the drivers foot panel on the window of the firewall. Agree that it has to be tested with a dimm but I can't figure out where the other end leads to.

I ran a new wire from the clip directly to the body ground near the battery. Dash lights are off, everything looks as it should. THANK YOU!!
