help needed.

Anybody here near the hay area??? Somehow a bolt sheered off on the back plate behind the brakes on the knuckle. I tried getting it out but I broke a bit in as well.. does anyone know how I can get it out without talking apart the whole knuckle??

But he said knuckle. 86+ runners don't have knuckles. You may be right but who knows.

As stated above, we need pics. What bit did you break in the bolt? Was it a drill bit or an easy out bit?

Whatever year your runner is, that is a knuckle on a solid axle. Has your rig undergone surgery for a sas? If so, we need more pics of the overall vehicle to further determine how to help you.

In the mean time you need to see if you can take off the felt ring and see straight down to the metal. You have one of a few choices. You can either try to drill again using a sharper drill bit at a lower drill speed using a little bit of patience and then try to use an easy out on it. OR you can try to weld another bolt to the visible material of the busted bolt.

Yeah, if you've got a drill bit busted off in there you're probably going to need to take the knuckle to a machinist. Drill bits are really hard metal. It might be easier to grab a used knuckle and just replace it, if you can find one.

Or just run it like that. Those felts are going to weep no matter what you do, that one busted bolt won't be too much worse.

Its a trail gear rock assault tacoma lenth axle. Brand new.. only wheeled it 4 times.. then I blew up my hubs.. waiting on chromoly hub gears..

Did you over torque the bolt or put a ton of loc-tite on it? It's odd that a brand new setup is breaking hardware, especially in that spot where it's not a high torque bolt.

I didnt do the install. I had a buddy who owns a shop do it.. I heard a loud bang. . On the freeway.. I bet it just flew off that way. .. ohh well.. it only concerns me because its starting to leak a lil grease from that area.. I just don't want it to get worse..

Pull away the felt rings and get to that bolt. Send pics of the broken bolt after you get the felt out of the way. Either way, you're going to have to either drill more if you can and use an easy out or weld another bolt to it if you can. If you cannot do either of these you'll have to take the hub off completely and take it to a machine shop as KidV mentioned.
