Hey guys I smelled a funky smell and I believe it has something to do with my radiator/ reservoir. The reservoir that holds the pinkish fluid I saw has maybe only like 8% left in it. I think that it may just not be getting all the fluid it needs since its low. I called my dad and he said to pour distilled water in it. Will it be ok to do that without doing like 50/50 of water and coolant? I don't have any coolant fluid available right now. Thankyou!

Yes, a couple glugs of distilled water to top off your reservoir will be fine.

What "funky smell"? Was it a sweet smell, or acrid? Did you check your oil level?

I don't know how the hell to explain it maybe its a little sweet but it's the same smell my 00' tacoma had which ended up being the radiator. Just when I got it fixed I got this. These radiator bastards...lol. Thanks btw!

You can always check your radiator level when cold by just removing the cap (only when cold or you'll burn your hand and the radiator will turn into a fountain!). The fluid should be all the way to the top. If you see exposed metal fins then your radiator is leaking somewhere.

And yes, these 4Runners have a known issue with radiator failures that can possibly ruin your transmission so don't ignore any problems you might see developing!
