help on TDC Trouble Code P0116 P

I bought the UBD II and put it on my 97 4R and got this code.
The story is that I struggle with high idle for a long time and after 1/2 year I get the check engine light. I disconnected the battery for a while and the Check Engine went away but I ordered the UBD anyways.
In a booklet it says P0116 means Engine Coolant Temp CKT Range/ Performance.
I have no idea what to do with this.
Who can help. What is wrong with the car?

High idle suggests your coolant temp sensor is kaput and is never telling ECM that engine has warmed up.

From the FSM--always a good place to start...

I just changed the temperature sensor behind the timing belt cover.
What a difference! Now the engine idles at 600/650 as it should.
It seems that this sensor is to consider if idle is too high and going up and down. Mine went from 1600 to 1400 to 1000 and right back to 1600 where it mostly stayed.
