:bash: I'm pipe wrenching it and nothing, starting to strip!
How much heat should I apply without destroying the inner?

Maybe the problem is the pipe wrench. If you pick up a 27 and 28mm wrench you would have the right tool to fit the tie rod and lock nut and may not have any issues. If its that rusted up though I might consider just replacing the whole assembly the inner tie rods on mine actually wore out before the outers did, and they're pretty easy to do anyway.

Thanks guys, I'm considering replacing inners now. My oxy reg. decided to fail me of all times! Odd thing is its only the driver side, passenger side turned super easy. Glad i bought some beers :)

Thanks Stick, i actually went to sears of all days desperately looking for larger spanners, it was a nightmare, bloody fun day.

I actually found the 27mm and 28mm at the Sears in Montclair IIRC. The 42mm and 36(I think it was?) I picked up for the Inner tie rods I had to go with cheapy China wrenches from an industrial supply place to avoid a lengthy wait for them.

Buy a new boot as well or you will find that you still need to separate the outer from the inner tierod.

Not sure about auto parts store POS's but I'm 99% sure the Toyota inners come with new boots. Its been a while but I have the old boots as spares laying around after my suspension freshening.

^or do what I did, break out the cutting wheel and cut the outer in half to get the boot off. ;).

I was 2 seconds away from doing that when I finally got mine to break.

Didn't know that. I got group 555 from NAPA. ITRE were the only non OEM part I used when I changed out my balljoints and tierods. The NAPAs inners did come with a new nut for my OEM outers, that didn't have the nut.
