problem: 2002 v6 mode sport edition 4 runner will not move when gear is engaged.

when it happened: a few days ago I was taking my significant other and her sister to lunch, on the way there I hear sort of a noise only in the high gear though. Then on the way back doing about 50mph the 4 runner just goes out of gear and stops moving and comes to a stop. engine still runs but no gears. Now it will not go into any gear.

What i've done:
recently i pulled the transmission pan to check to see if it is going into gear and then I pulled off the valve body, well the 3 springs and are underneath the valve body I'm not sure about the arrangement that they go. does anyone have any information on them any help would help thank you.

(p.s. please don't say take it to a dealership because no I don't really have enough money to take it to a dealership right now because of college and house payment. so please just don't say take it there. I can't afford it here, our toyota dealership wanted to perform the 90,000 mile tune up and charge close to 1000.00 for it something like 958.00 )

I had the exact same problem with my 2000 4R a few months back. My problem started shortly after I bought the car in 2006. Whenever I use the 4WD, the indicator will refuse to go off after I switch back to 2WD mode. After driving for some time, the indicator will go off on its own. Now the indicator has remained on.

While the car was still in this condition, the transmission seized while driving at about 120km/h at a remote section of a rural highway. The car will not move on any of the gears. I was forced to go down and examine the mechanism. I noticed two electrical connections to a metal box - I believe that is what you call valve body. When I disconnected these wires, the transmission engaged and the car could then move. I continued with my journey and didn't both about this problem again untill I noticed some noise from the transmission some days ago.

The noise is so serious that it makes you uneasy. Yesterday, I attempted reconnecting those wires. When I did, the vehicle made attempts to engage the 4WD but did not succeed. The entire gear system could not engage and the car could not move. So I had to disconnect the wires again.

Now I really need to find a solution to this problem. How do I stop this noise and get the 4WD system to function properly?

So I am interested in how you solve your problem.
