Help Replacing Shocks

Greetings,

I have a 2000 4runner limited 2WD. The vehicle has exactly 113,000 miles on it and it is time to replace the shocks.

The vehicle does not go off road, can someone suggest a good replacement shock? Also, how difficult is it to replace them myself? I have access to the necessary tools, but I am not sure the level of difficulty to remove and replace.

I did this at Christmas and it is part skill and part luck. Do a search and you will find a few articles. The rears will be easy or hard (luck part). The upper nut is very difficult to remove since there is not space for turning. If you have a lot of corrosion it's a pain. I hit mine with PB Blaster and used a stilson wrench on the body. The fronts are easy to get to but you need a spring compressor to remove the shock from the spring. Your comfort level with spring compressors lets you decide what to do here.

I would suggest replacing with the factory OEM's. Anything else is probably stiffer and not needed on the road. I added Monroe's and the extra stiffness on the road is causing me to think about switching back to OEM's at Christmas.
