Help! V8 2005 Vs 2006

Finally found 2 4runner's around my budget.
1. 2005 V8 96,000 mil $14,000.
2. 2006 V8 95,000 mil $16,500.

Please advise what the biggest difference between 2005 and 2006. Both are CARFAX-proofed.

Thank you,

Pretty much the only differences are cosmetic, and you get an aux jack in the 06 not in the 05. Learned that the hard way

V6 = timing chain

V8 = timing belt

V8 drinks much more gas and is full time 4WD in the Sport.

Both are great and as mentioned mostly cosmetic stuff are the differences. I have had both. the V6 has about the same power - just different power band. V8 has more torque.

2006 has first 3 years service report missing. that was a personal lease car.neither carfax nor toyota don't have record.

Seems like you want us to tell you to get the 05.

The differences ARE mostly cosmetic. However, if you plan on doing mods, it would be nice to have them, I'm sure.

for example, I would love to have a satoshi grill, but it's a huge pain with the 03 grill.

Projector headlights are nice too if you want to run HIDs

That's all I can really think of.

prices seem a bit high on both given what my 2005 would bring

still getting a lot for your money with either one you choose if you plan to keep 'em for 100,000 more miles

X2 on the Satoshi mod and headlights, probably the only reasons I'd get an 06-09, oh and don't forget about the LED taillights :D

Also hard to say with out know the options each one has. If the 06 is an SR5 and the 05 is a Limited then I'd probably go for the 05.

Yeah good call, which is each?

Buy whichever one does not have the transfer case actuator leak. This is a $2500 fix. It would be nice to take an extended drive in each. After 3 or 4 hours driving my 03 speedometer starts reading fast, goes back to normal after it cools off. I have not fixed it yet but supposedly another $2000 fix. Otherwise my decision would be based on options and condition. I like both styles. I could care less about led lights.

Both V6 & V8's have the transfer case actuator. It's what takes from HI - LO. It's a module that sits on the tailhousing where the driveshaft comes out. If it's going to leak it'll already be wet. Just make sure that it shifts from HI to LO and back again and you should be fine.

And with the 06 being a Sport + JBL, that would be a clear choice to me, but I'm biased. :lol:
