Help! V8 2005 Vs 2006

As long as both vehicles are mechanically and cosmetically sound get whichever one catches your eye more. Theres so many options that for the most part every 4th gen out there looks different. I personally am not a fan of ones without the spoiler and non color keyed mirrors, roof rack, steps and cladding. And I hate the ones with chrome all over.

both have'nt done timing belt and water pump replaced done. the final price for theyou 2006 is $17379 out out of door. include taxes and tag. is this price reasonable?

Sousa a little high. You should also make sure the vehicle has had the timing belt changed.

+1
I think that's a bit high for the year and mileage.

FYI. I bought a 05 sport edition 4wd for $10.5K from private seller in Southern Cal 3 months ago.

Buy whichever one does not have the transfer case actuator leak. This is a $2500 fix.

I realize this is probably an argument for another thread but I wouldn't really call it a leak, more of a sweat. "Technically" speaking my truck has the "so-called leak" but there's never any oil on my driveway and when I changed the fluid last fall after 1.5 years of having the "leak" my TC still had the correct amount of fluid it it.

My theory is that a drop sneaks pass the seal when you cycle the actuator. A small amount of oil can make a big mess. So you have to use 4lo alot to lower the fluid level. I use 4lo 10-15 times a year and it didn't seem to effect my level.

Just my 2 cents.

I'd say go for the 06. With the SE and JBL it will be more comfortable over time and the facelift honestly does look better. $17 is definitely a good price. I got my 03 for $17 in August and it was the cheapest Limited 4x4 I found in the area. All the 06+ were around $19-22.

It will get worse! Mine started out that way. It only leaks when the 4runner is moving , only the residual on the actuator hits the ground when parked. I made a drip pan for mine so it does not make a mess. I have to clean out the drip pan in which I have an old sock filled with oil dry and top of the transfer case several times a year even though my 4runner only gets about 3-4k miles a year put on it now. Currently at 71k miles.

toyota recommended #91 gas. do you guys really follow that?

I don't. I did for a while every other couple of tanks or so to see if it made a difference and tried octane boost with regular gas as well.

With the price of gas now a days, I just use regular as I didn't see any real difference.

I compared the amount of gas used v.s. the mileage to calculate it so my results are not scientific, just my own observations.
